Sounds Like fun but I aint really been hunting since I started this patch 2 years ago.. Everyone in town finds out about a patch then you get every1 and thier Gramma out there tearin' everything up.. I've fukked my own patch up quite abit by planting organic rye grain instead of real grass. It got quite contaminated but I just went out(haven't checked it for a couple days) OMG AT LEAST 200 boomers. And it aint even rained yet!?!?!? I got really stoned about a week ago and forgot about the sprinkler. I was trying to prepare them for a nice rain instead I gave them one. Oops. Now I gotta lightly water about twice a day and heavy water once a week. sounds about right. We'll see...

If that was a "Fuckin' Funny answer," then I guess our definitions of funny differ.
It was an honest question, I've never heard them called boomers in the South. I wondered if it was a term that was specific to the PNW.
Your answer was very mature and informative; thanks for the help, buddy.

I'm with Dobie. Never heard them called that, other than here. They have lots of nicks but usually related to the species. - @cro

Intyeresting becasue the spore deposits on the rings of cuboies are usually a dark chocolate brown, rarely purple if anyone really knowns the difference between chocolate-purple brown and purple or chocolate.
The rings on most cubes actually appear mor eblack than purple or brown.
And if anyone needs proof off the colors I can show you purple caps or brown to black rings, but I have nevr seen a purple ring. I never saw a purple ring, I never hope to see one, but I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one.

I've heard them called bloomers, but not boomers. The guy who called them bloomers was from Minnesota. The most common slang for them is shrooms. I have never heard the term wavy Gravy except from a book I read once.

What is with all of the !!!
I simply stated that I have heard the term "bloomers" in the past. A mushroom blooming is similar in idea to a flower blooming as the cap opens so does a flower...so the term bloomers makes sense to me although I do not call them that myself. It makes more sense to me to call them bloomers than boomers.
I would be happy to buy you a beer if you would quit !!! at me.

Hey Joshua,
the actual term is fruiting, not blooming. hew mushrooms fruit, like apples on a tree. The body is underground. They do not bloom. Only in the last year or two has the word 'boomers' been used to describe who knows what kinda shroom?. OF course one can read my book on ancient and contemporary mushroom names of Mesoamerica and Other regions of the World," for nick-names and ancient names from all over the Globe. at my site at:

I guess peoples eyes see differently. IMO Psilocybe cubensis most certainly does have a dark purple colored veil. I was never told this either, its not something that was instilled in me, its something I've noticed on my own while picking thousands of them.
Here is what Paul Syamets has to say in his description of a Ps. cubensis stem "a well developed persistant membranous veil that soon becomes dusted with purplish-brown spores".
Now, if you can show me a cubensis mushrooms with a black colored veil that isn't from bad color or lighting in the photo, I would be suprised!

Anyways, about the PNW.
Cardboard, MJ, and the rest of you PNW'sters, if you were me, spending a few thousands dollars and taking a weeks vaction to fly up and experiance the PNW mushrooms season, when would you fly up there? I want to buy plane tickets next monday and I am thinking that flying up either the last week of october or the first week of november would be a good time, but I am open for suggestions. I have plently enough frequent flyer points so my ticket will essentially be free! I know you can't predict with certainty when peak season will be, but like I said, with your experiance picking in the PNW, and if you were me, when would you fly up there?
Also, what would a good central location for me to stay at? I have no idea what seattle is like, traffic wise and the like. Would it be a bad idea to stay smack dab in down town seattle? I was thinking Tacoma would be a good place to stay, it'd be easy to get to seattle and aslo easy to get to astoria from there, and I do plan to visit the oregon coast while I am in the great PNW.
Sorry for all the questions, I just want my vacation to be the best possible! I have time to plan this right, and thats what I intend to do.
Open for any tips/suggestions anyone might have...
