A. Muscaria var. Formosa, ?
    #1956627 - 09/27/03 06:35 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I think I have several specimens of A. Muscaria var. Formosa?

cap-yellow, occasional redness. white spots due to veil.
gills-close, slightly attached, but very very easily separable.white
spore print- white, and very abundant, quick to sporalate
basal bulb-firm, several layers of concentric circles.
stipe flesh- firm, non bruising, cottony in center.
partial veil- still present, low on stipe and whispey.
habitat- growing under conifers, residential setting.

I picked, photographed, and printed these yesterday. 24 hours later, went to check the spore print, and decay had set into the palest ones. I was surprised at how soon they, "delequieced", anyway they are now adorning a few conifer tree plots in my yard.. I plan on mixing in with the pine bark mulch,"to see what happens", I was skeptical on preparing these for consumption anyway,, have heard too many negative stories.

Probably a good idea on all fronts- we need more people with a spirit of adventure enough to propell them to exp. with Amanita cultivation. It seems to work sporadically. I myself am debating rather last years attempt was a small success or a random act of god. They look very different from many of my finds- but nice one man. An amanita that looks more similar to what you have than a muscaria var. formosa grows under oaks here in nice fairy rings- wonder what that could be. They lack cocentric circles though.

YEs, those are certainly formosa's.

Nice find. If you found those there are more, look under every pine!

Ive been reading that the ones in September are less potent than the ones in August.

Oh, I know effed,,, I've been seeing these in alot of places.. they don't last too long though,,, a few spots,, i figured I'd let them go 2 more days,, to open and sporulate,, but when I went back they were already decomposing... Here's an area right outside someones home...

They have already run the cycle.... gone.. I guess you've gotta be quick,,, they go fast.... thanks for the input....
