Foreign letters/accents on English Keyboard?

Trying to do a French paper here, but points will be taken off if I dont have the correct accents in the correct places. You know, the little slashes and swirls above letters that make them sound oh-so-wierd.
I was told the way to make my keyboard make these, but I seem to have forgotten. Someone must know?

In the old days, on a PC, we used to use alt codes... like alt-132 (hold down alt, and type 1 3 2 on the number pad) and you will get a lowercase a with two dots over it: ?. I use LaTeX for any papers I write, so I cannot help you much.

If you're using MS Word, try the "Insert" menu item "Symbol". It will bring up a list of all the characters you can put into your text.

In Windows, Start/Run charmap.exe
Or Control Panel/Keyboard install the French layout, then you have accented A's and E's on the [ ; ' keys I think (at least with the Swiss they are there). You can switch layouts with Alt-Shift.
