Nice but where did you get the culture? They look more like H.Coralloides  then they do H.Erinaceus.

VDG told me that too. I'll have to go back and see who I got the dish from.

Right on if it is H.Coralloides I would love to get a wedge or something.

 I've got plenty of the culture left, once I get a positive ID on them I'll let you know.

I agree, it's the dead of winter and I'm fruiting next to a sliding glass door, at probably like 40-50F - where the hell do those little bastards even come from?!

Right? Here's a little vid I made tonight on how I spawn pasteurized substrates. Usually use my totes but I used these to keep the damn gnats out.

when u compress ur coir like that, does the bottom of the bag take longer to colonize because all the water is squeezed to the bottom?
i think i needs me a flower pot tho.  i hate wiping the sides of the bags after loading before PCing (i know thats not what ur doing there, but still applicable)
thanks for sharing dude

Don't know, we'll see. You can always flip the bag over so the moisture runs back into the sub. And I fill my bags with the pot before PC'ing substrate.

Picked some mushrooms this morning. Some I'm saving for eatin' later today, and the rest are getting dried for seasoning.

P. populinus on corn cob pieces and Maple leaves.

Mystery Oyster, I believe it's pseudo-Hyp ulm (first flush). Doesn't do as good as the P. populinus on the cob/leaf substrate, and definitely doesn't like the 70F temps.

P. populinus on sawdust/coffee chaff/verm. 3rd flush.

I believe this is actually is H. coralloides, not H. erinaceus like it was labelled. First flush.

jake when u get sawdust, do u generally have to sift it ever?  when i get it, there are a bunch of leaf's, some rocks, and soil balls.  i even found a bic lighter once, and a small garden snake (now in captivity).  wasn't sure about the extent to which i should "clean it" so to speak.

Nope, I have them load me up from the top of the pile coming out of the shoot from the separator (separates sawdust and saw chips coming off the saw blade). The chips gets shot into semi trailers, and the sawdust just gets moved after the pile is big enough. I try to call ahead so I know what type of wood they are cutting that week.

BL, just checked the bags after over 24 hrs... No pooling of water in the bottoms of the bags.

Here are a few blocks of Shiitake "Night Velvet" I made up for a farming buddy in GA. I made them so he could use them to spawn log totems, but they started fruiting in the bags so he made a fruiting chamber for them. This is a nice warm-weather strain from F&F, I do suggest it. These started off on coffee-soaked milo, then were spawned to sterilized sawdust/verm/coffee chaff at 2:1:1 ratio. There were starting to brown up when I sent them to him. The one block has a hell of a first flush!

Me and a friend split an order of their sawdust spawn, then I transferred a bit of sawdust to agar to get culture going. You want some culture? I can send you a slant of it.
