What size tub are you working out of Pastywhite

These are 20 quart tubs. They are a little short, but I have a preference for fatass cubes so they work perfect for that. Had I known how tall these suckers would get I might have used different tubs.

Good to know, I have one myself untouched and saw a tech where you put 4 holes in the bottom right above substrate, and only 2 in top is that ok!

I'm sure that would be fine. I have a few of these tubs that are also unmodified that I plan to try a few different configurations on for these.

Cool, thanks man! Oh and check out how sweet your first reishi grow compared to mine this is only my second grow of anything, Forrest and Forrester liked it, but I do believe they were just being cool! Notice how the conks are upside down in the bucket, Forrester said he had never seen anything like it because he said once they drop spores that's usually the end of the first flush, but he said not in that case because there are still more coming up!

Sorry about that cc1, keep trying :thumbup:

At any rate, when I got home from work today I was too tired to check the tubs. Later I had a look and found a big ass spore dump begining. So I didn't really want a large spore load in my room, so I harvested them. Could not believe how shrunken and crushed the subs were. Easily shrank to 50% of its original volume. The fruits were intensely clustered, and surprisingly tough, almost like cutting plastic. Ended up chopping the subs up pretty bad, and considering how spent they looked, decided to pitch em. But wow, what a cool harvest experience :headbanger:

The beat up sub

Tub 1 wet; this one I left a 41 gram cluster off, misplaced :lol: :bong:

Tub 2 wet;

They are in the dehydrator now, be interesting to see what they dry down to.

Very cool indeed, I followed this grow from start to finish, very exciting stuff!  Can't wait to try my hand at growing Reishi, just got my culture syringe 2 days ago and I went to get hardwood chips just today. :laugh:  Have some coir and verm as well, and by the looks of it, they seem to work just fine. :P

Awesome PW!!! When you said you "pitched them" , you didn't mean you tossed the subs in the trash, right? Those need spawned to some outdoor grow bed or something!

That's crazy you were getting spores, I don't even see any pores!  Awesome harvest though, for sure.  You'll be set on tincture for a while I think :lol:

You'll probably get about 20-30% of that weight dry, I always get 25%.  Reishi doesn't have as much water content as some other species.

If only it wasn't for the 2 feet of snow or the brutal freezing temps here right now I would have :tongue: Actually its only -7 f right now so I might actually get my car washed today while its not too cold out :wink:

Thanks for following along guys :thumbup: I am a little torn about when to start my next run with these guys as I have a few other experiments that I need to attend. But no matter what when I do start another one, a log will be done. I will at least report back with a dry weight, and I do plan to do an extraction. I did want to see how these would do with a simple coir sub with no wood, so I might get that started right away :super:

The spores took me by surprise as well. But by the time I had them harvested, I looked at my hands and they were covered in spores. The water content is definitely lower than other species, I could not believe how tough the fruits were. A serrated knife is definitely in order for these.

Be sure and rip 'em into as small of pieces as you can BEFORE you dry them (if it's not too late).  Once dry, it's a hell of a lot more difficult.

Well some of them were chopped up pretty small as I was going, but halfway through I just was like fuck it, I was tired and wanted to go to bed. So I guess I gotta challenge ahead :lol: When completely dry can they be cracked or crushed at all? Would a hammer work :lmafo:
