    #1952311 - 09/25/03 09:39 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Found these 2 days ago on my way home from work,, Omphalotus illudens, I thought,, although they are alot bigger than other specimens I have seen recently,,,and look alot different,,, that ID doesn't satisfy me,, I think they are something else all together,, what do you think,,,, maybe a varient?????

cap- umbonate to convex bright orange
gills- decurrent, pronounced
stipe- hollowish,"can't remember but I think it was cottony at center same coloring as cap.
habitat- growing cesposite at the base of old growth hardwood
size- mucho, mucho standard buick keys and carabiner for comparison.
spore print-??,"I know how can I expect an accurate answer without one".
I didn't really get alot of info on this as I was busy and didn't take it home... I turned around and checked it because I thought it may be G. spectabilis.... when it wasn't I became disinterested,, now I'm wondering... Thanks for looking.. No find um...

Thanks mr. mushrooms... So I guess my first instinct was correct.. Now I know just how big these things can get,, i was shocked.... I've read that in certain European countries they eat these,, and then years later suffer from a form of anemia... Or at least they did in the past...
