Should I Birth These???

I am debating whether to birth these pf cakes. Only about 80% of the substrate has been colonized, but I believe they are done as they do not seem to be expanding anymore and they are beginning to show signs of growth. I made the mistake of using tall half pint jars, and thus flipped them a week ago. The flipping helped but I believe they are not going to get any better and in fear of getting a contamination, I am wondering if I should birth them or not. Please let me know what you think! Thank you!

Tough call. They stalled for a reason, could be a sign on contam. If you do birth, wash the un colonized portions off. Then dunk and roll as normal.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I can't decide what to do. Can anyone whose reading this give me a rough estimate as to how long after first signs of premature growth/pinning (prior to all of the substrate being colonized) before I start to have a high risk of contams? Basically whats the longest I can wait before birthing? Its been exactly 1 month since inoculation. They are also being kept in a pretty cold environment of 62 degrees F. Also, there seems to be a very high moisture content in the jars currently.

If you're planning on birthing them anyway and they are stalled what would be the point in waiting longer if they're not going to colonize an further? Also it might not even be the fact of waiting to long and having a higher risk of contams because as gimp already stated pinning before full colonization can be an indicator of of contam in which case the contam would already be present.

they loook healthy, but when myc runs into a compact sub at one end and dry verm on the other it will consider it fully colonized, also a factor as to y it slowed to a hault colonizing

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom. Greatly appreciated! The only reason I am wanting to wait it out a little longer is that I just started making little markings on the jars to see if there was still progress, and there is, just ever so slightly. I would say about 1 mm every day or so. This could also be a factor caused by me keeping them at a low temp of just over 60 degrees F. I think I will wait til this weekend and then birth them if I see no more significant mycelium growth.

So it turns out they are still colonizing, just very very slightly, expanding at about 1mm per 24 hours approx. However they are also showing more pinning and more premature growth. One jar has about 9-10 little fruits beginning to pop up. Any more thoughts on when to birth them?

If you had not turned them upside down you could have loosened the lid. That helped my slow growth.
As for what to do now, even if the cakes are pinning, if they are still colonizing and you know this for sure, just let them finish and then wait at least a few days after that.

I'd fruit it if it's pinning. Kinnda the mushies way to tell you they're done colonizing what they wanted/was able to colonize.

Just wanted to update, and thank everyone for the advice. I ended up birthing shortly after. Most of the cakes started fruiting nicely, however there were 2 which stalled. However after two weeks, they started pinning and now look wonderful. Here is a picture of one of them. Im really happy that despite the cakes seeming to be only 75% colonized or so, they turned out fine! However, looking back, due to how long it took to see pins on a couple, it seems that I could have waited longer to birth.

Thanks! Where do you see the yellow contams? I think it might be the filter/contrast on the camera because the mycelium is all pretty much white in person.

that and the cold temps.probably halted growth, maybe it hibernated
Nice job though
