Casing
    #1952163 - 09/25/03 08:51 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

A buddy of mine spawned 1 pint of malabar to compost and straw.
Its in a big microwavable bowl. Its almost done colonizign except a small patch in the corner..should he wait to case or should he go ahead and do it?

Depends how big the small patch is. If the mycelium can colonize that tiny patch in the time it colonizes the casing medium and before you fruit then yeah case now. But if it will take a while to xolonize that one patch then wait.

it'd give it a good 1-1 1/2 inch in diameter

How are you casing it? Are you going to crumble up the colonized bulk or are you jsut going to add a layer of casing medium? If you mix it up I'd do it now. But if you are going to add a casing medium to it then I would wait for it to colonize. So then it wouldn't colonize unevenly.
