With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

alright i'll see how much i can be fucked writing as im pretty tired but i'll do my best
also i probably cant say any names or give any big details in the interest of psuedo-anonymity and legal/job stuff etc
so a couple of wankers who run their own little expedition tourist group wanted to go and do some 'science' (not really science but just self-wankery, psuedo-science. I am not a climate sceptic and am a firm believeer in climate change/man made or natural but these dudes are just wankers)
to fund their 'science' trip they got a bunch of tourists on board. the majority of them really fucking old, fat, unfit, sickly old shits. They each paid something like $10k or $11k to go on the trip.
Before the trip, they had absolutely no induction, no briefing on safety measures, no medical examinations, no boat drills, nothing. They simply jumped on the ship and went down to fairy floaty happy penguin fluffy antarctica. they assumed antarcitca was a hapy place and there was no danger to them at all.
the leaders of the expedition were advised by a leading ice expert to NOT go into the commonwealth bay area... as the breaking off of the B9B super berg had changed the dynamics of the sea-ice in the area. they were told if they went into the area, they would most definitely get stuck, and their ship was not an ice=breaker (merely ice trengthened). Nonetheless, voyage management manipulated the captain to steer the ship into the area.
during the time, they were, apparently, quite a fair way from the actual continent. So they started ferrying people across the ice on foot/small vehicles sot he paying tourists could get the glory of saying they'd set foot on the continent of antarctica. According to antarctic folklore you can't really say you've been there if you never actualy set foot on it.
Whilst they were scurrying people over the ice, and one incident, we were told later when they were on board, was that they were sending people across the ice with absolutely no safety gear whatsoever. one woman actually fell through the ice into the water, miles from any help. the people with her turned around saw a hand sticking up from the water, puled her out, and because of a lack of safety gear, they actually gave her the clothes off their backs to keep her warm until they got back to the ship.
Of course, these are all accounts from the people on the Russian ship, I was not on the russian ship, just the AA, the ship that took all the passengers back to australia. We heard all this after thye were on board and they found out just how much of a risk the voyage management had put on their lives with their total lack of preparation and safety measures.
the russian captain was apparently expressing great urgency to leave the commonwealth bay area, saying "we must go now or we'll be fucked" basically, but voyage management (the guy you've probably seen on th news a lot trying to defend himself, total wanker btw) insisted on sending more people ashore so they could get their moneys worth. of course the ice blew in, they got stuck ina blizzard and pretty sure you know the rest of the story.
another fuckup was the oldies ran out of medication. these people were old. fat and old. sick and old. i'm talking so old they have those sores that never heal. diabetics, people with nerve problems and all sorts of shit. when they were on board our ship the medic actually had to do a massive order of meds to be flown down to Casey station or else they would have run out and who nows what would have happened. voyage management on the russian ship had absolutely no perparation for this event occurring and literally put peoples lives in danger because of their absolute amateur bullfuckery.
these were inept old, wankers and one was so old I had to actually help her through a door because she couldnt step over a storm step.
also, they treated our ship like acruise ship, expecting their cabins to be cleaned for them, ate all our fucking food, even when we pretty much told them "we are running out of food" you'd still go into the mess at 2am and find 10 of them standing around fucking grazing stuffing their fat faces with all the food. And they'd just generally suck at life and piss you off with annoying questions, get in the way and be in places they weren't supposed to be.
also made no quarantine arrangements, pretty much went down, put their "SCIENCE IN A BUCKET" and expected to go back to wherever and take their antarctic "SCIENCE' without passing any quarentinr checkpoints. when we got to hobart quarentine was like "LOL taking this now kthx" and took all their buckets of bullshit hopefully to thaw out and die because they just assumed they could do whatever they want.
the russian crew should not cop any flak. the people who copped flak should be the voyage management who put peoples lives in danger and caused a colossal fuckup resulting in a multimillion dollar rescue mission involving four other countries.
he tried to downplay the severity of it in various media statements even leaving a FAQ on the noticeboard in the duty mess with all these bulshit lame excuses for their fuckups and a note saying "ive been inundated with qiuestions and cant afford the time to answer them all so ive done this FAQ to answer most of them" and hid in his cabin most of the time, also controlled all the AS passengers communications so they couldnt get in touch with the real world and tell them of the fuckups.
apparently there was a really bad mood in the AS passengers as they were on board our ship, they had secretive meetings and the passengers started getting really fired up at voyage management after they'd found out just how much of a colossal fuck up their trip was, and how much of a bunch of fuckups they all now looked like to the entire world. we were getting articles printed out from media outlets all over the world basically dragging their names through mud because of their bullshit trip, saying how it was hilarious how they just expected to b saved and then partied on the whole time whilst we were all rushing to save them, constantly changing their stories, trying to play themselves off as these big heroic explorers when in reality they were a bunch of muppets with no clue at all. other articles saying "it was testament to the situtaion seeing aurora australis crew ferrying their luggage for them as the AS passengers wadled through the snow"
they were fucking jokes and they should have been left their to die IMO

-------------------- "I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

The Captain certainly should get a huge helping of flak. He was in charge of the ship and ultimately had the final say.

the captain was saying "we need to go now" whilst the voyage management kept sending people ashore. he couldnt just leave without them. He should certainly not cop anywhere near as much as the wankers who were running the expedition
