Is this normal to find in the base of the stem?

I cut a stem of a mushroom at the base to try cloning with the little white mycelium um that is supposed to be there but instead I came upon this...
 at first it was full of it and it was a pretty clear liquid. What is this supposed to be?

Well it was actually growing pretty nicely and Its veils wouldve been broken by the next 12 hours

I opened up the whole stem, cleaned that shit out and set it to dry..

No, no funky smell at all. Only thing I can smell is the typical mushroom smell.

That's way too wet and of dubious quality for cloning. Next time, don't overwater the substrate. RR
