How to get pasteurized coir with additives back to field capacity?
    #19508659 - 02/01/14 11:14 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

Question's in the title.

Don't go telling me one quart this and one gallon that works perfectly with one liter coir etc. because I'm from England and don't know these measurements.

My trays have 14 litre capacity and I thought up a mix of coir, verm and grain which would equal around 12.75 litres but I have since decided to add coffee grounds or chicken poo for nitrogen and pasteurize them all together. But I don't know how much water I should use to achieve perfect field capacity so I would have to probably lower it.

My guess would be pour into a pillow case once it's cooled a little, twist the pillow case and then keep going to squeeze all the water out until no more drips are seen to fall but water still gathers when squeezed.

Would this do?

I have done that twisting things a few times before and it has worked most of those times.

Give it a go unless someone is able to give you a foolproof method.

"It sounds like you know what you're doing"

I'm pretty thorough and normally get things right in the end but I'm not quite there yet.
Close, but not quite

200g coir
60g  verm
970 g/ml water
20g  used coffee grounds
20g  gypsum
Should get you close to field capacity.

Makes enough for four jars worth of these 200g Maxwell house instant coffee jars>

Pasteurised like this>Pasteurising bulk substrate/casing
Which will fit into a 6L prestige hi-dome PC.

Two jars of the bulk sub to one jar spawn per bucket>
