BRF Jars stalling but a couple of pins appeared, Halp!
    #19506410 - 02/01/14 02:25 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

So just over three weeks ago I shot up four BRF jars with a B+ MSS using the standard pf-tek. I used wide half-pint glasses with foil lids and 4 innoc/GE holes and of course a layer of dry verm.

They've been progressing relatively well, though it seems no real growth has occurred during the past 4-5 days. They have been aggressively growing from the bottom of the jar up, and every single jar seems to have stalled just where the foil comes down to, below that they are fully colonized.

Now my intention was to leave them another week, however a couple of the jars have a little pin or two appearing. The temp has dropped a few degrees in the last week so wondering if a "cold-shock" could have caused this?

The photos are very bad I'm afraid, and it seems the lighting has caused every droplet of water to magnify tenfold...

Some pins (hard to make out in these photos)

Any suggestions what I should do? The temp is back up to around 25c so they may finish colonizing in the next few days. Or would it be worth trying to move them into a closed tub (with filter GE holes) and remove the foil lid altogether? They currently reside in a TiT as temps here are around 10-15c at best.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks very much in advance!

Sorry it's the top that isn't colonized, everywhere you can't see basically due to the foil (which comes down the side of the glass about 1 inch

I feel adequately stupid! Didn't think my dry layer was really that far down, but makes sense now you say it.

Thanks bud!
