Okay so I checked on my jars and one of them has been looking kinda weird for a little while but no smell like the other jars I had to toss. I have a little baby shroom on the side of the jar that looks healthy but the other side is kinda yellow brown. Take a look and let me know what I should do!! Thanks!!

Looks like you have a bit o' bacteria.
Personally I would not keep it.
One jar of mycelium is nothing.

Bummer.... I only had 3 jars survive out of 8. All bacteria contaminated....but the other jars had an odor that's why I was hesitant to throw this one out. Especially if it was pinning. But thank you for your comments!!! This is my first grow so I'm still learning!

All of my BRF jars that are incubated (not just put on a shelf at room temp) seem to always have a noticeable funky bacterial-like smell coming through the holes on top of the verm barrier. If I DON'T incubate (I have only done a few jars like that) and set the jars in a closet on a shelf, the smell is never there. I guess that's bacteria favoring stale air and higher temps. I guess I have been lucky that no bacteria spread to the rest of my BRF cakes. I have only had one issue with contam before in one jar, and I chucked it immediately.

What method did you use to sterilize and inoculate the jars?

Kingcloyster - I used a small bathroom. I cleaned and bleached the hell out of it....took down shower curtains and removed anything from the bathroom that I could. Closed the vent. Wore gloves. Flamed the needle after every couple jars. I may try either doing it Dexter style next time or using a box. Any other suggestions? I'm thinking of starting another batch since this one wasnt as successful as I had hoped.
Oh and I boiled the jars with the substrate for about an hour beforehand. Let them cool for about 5-6 hours

Ive had almost success using a simple still air box with two arm holes cut out. Nothing fancy, no tyvek sleeves, although that helps. Wipe down the inside with ISO alc, spray the inside once more time with alc and start loading jars in one by one with gloved hands. Be sure to wipe down each jar with ISO alc before u load it in. And then when they are inside the box, take the foil off the jars right before u flame sterilize the needle and inoculate each one. BE CAREFUL! I HAVE LIT MY ISO SOAKED HANDS ON FIRE BEFORE! Let the alc evaporate quite a bit

You guys might be right but it's a hard call on this one. It could be a bacterial contam or metabolites. I would give 4 or 5 days and see if it colonizes 100%. You won't be loosing more than you already have but yeah ... probably a gonner.

Isn't early fruiting a sign of a bacterial contam?

If your boiling you need to do it for at the very least 90 mins..

It is and that's why I think it's a gonner, but invitro pinning might be triggered by other factors as well. Even if full mycelial consolidation was not achieved

Jars also pin early because they make a perfect micro climate needed for pinning..
