Grinding fresh truffles before drying?
    #19501500 - 01/31/14 02:13 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

This is my first post on shroomery (even though I have been reading the forums for a while) and also my first attempt at growing truffles. My questions is, would it be possible/quicker to grind my fresh truffles after harvesting them before drying them? I was planning on grinding them all anyway and encapsulating them. Thank you for any feedback

Trying to grind fresh mushrooms is just gonna make a paste. Dry them first.

Truffles, as in sclerotia, have the consistency of garlic or nuts, and can be grinded fresh quite nicely, in fact if you leave them whole they will probably break the grinder if you try to grind them dry. Grind fresh, dry, then grind the smaller pieces to powder.

what kind of pussy grinder would break, I eat the things with my teeth just fine. I can grind ice in my grinder which is harder than a truffle. They will turn into paste if you put them into a grinder they have a huge moisture content, Just like garlic turns into paste in a grinder. If you use grater you can grate them down but that's kind of pointless since you're just increasing the surface area for oxidation while they're still wet.
