What ingredients are you putting in your sub? It may be time to switch products as the eggs or larva can come in bags of soil/manure and whatnot

sorry guys more of a frustrattion post then anything, it's been one thing after the other for my first year of growing, i know the don't generally cause too much harm unless you have an overly wet enviroment but this is beyond a few, there's hundreds if not more in the room

Been battling them as well, so I feel for ya. They are particular on the kind of mushies, they didn't touch my reishi, but loved my APE. I'm at the point where if I see a tub with them infesting it, it goes in the trash. Also have fly paper in every tub. They have fucked up a few of my projects and I'm just about ready to clean shop. It sucks big time

What kind of sub are you using? The fungus gnat lay larvae in the dirt. They feed on sweet stuff and fungus. You can get yellow sticky traps for adults which can control population but not much you can do about the larvae without chemicals or allowing the sub to dry out. I doubt they will hurt much but they can spread bacteria. Could also use vinegar with a drop of soap mixed in, but again that only deals with adult flies. They can walk pun liquid soap breaks the surface tension so they sink in the liquid .

They should drown in it I thought. I saw that post that you were in when it was suggested. I thought it worked.

Wrong. They fucking well aborted my entire pinset in a couple tubs, I could even see bruising on the caps where they were gnawing on em. They do spread a shitpile of bacteria around and weaken the sub as well.

Tried that as well

I thought it did too, but there must have been a few that got away. A week later and the problem was as bad as ever. The only thing that has been in my favor is that they seem to dislike a couple of my cultures and avoid them entirely. But they go ape shit over anything albino, and have caused a few problems in 60% of my projects. Tomorrow I am pitching everything that looks like they even been thinking about, and hopefully that puts a dent in dem bastards. Probably gonna lose 4 tubs which hurts, but I been fighting these fuckers too long.

Lots and lots of glue traps. They have ones specifically for gnats at hydro grow stores

I just battled em for a few months and got rid of em.
I just stopped fruiting tubs and dried out my room, killed as many as I could find by hand.
Just cleaned out the room completely so there wasn't anything for them to eat or live/reproduce in.
Haven't seen one in weeks.

Fucking gnats, those mofo's overan my house damn near on my first attempt at cultivating oyster mushrooms(pearl's) my first grow ever, ALMOST turned me off on the whole thing! Man I am sure glad it didn't! I have found so many new compadres and am learning something new everyday, I love this hobby, though it can be very troublesome at times, the reward is way worth the effort, I just wish there was a really good solution to this bug problem,I tried fly tape, leaving a sugared cup of coffee out, make a funnel with a tiny hole in it, into a container with some fruit(looking for bigger problems probably plus it did not work, I finally got the problem solved by setting them outside for a while under freezing temps than would spray them w/ water and freeze them, they are tough little pain in the asses! I finally got it almost manageable, but still who wants bugs flying around inside there home all the time? If ANYONE has a good idea that works please let us know,(I am sure we are not the only ones)! It paid off with some excellent mushrooms, here's some pics 3 flushes and that was all she wrote, maybe I will have some by spring from the old blocks. This second pic with elongated stems, was a problem of not enough fae, I had to build a mini greenhouse to keep humidity in and bugs out, but you had better fan it a few times a day or you end up with that or WAY worse!

Try putting a little apple cider vinegar in the cardboard piece on the bottom of your fly traps to attract them too it.

I used wine, and I caught quite a few but in the end it was a lost cause they got deep into the substrate and the mushrooms rotted. Same thing happened about a year ago. Something about the weather drives them inside i think.

Hold on a minute.
Do any gnats get into mushrooms?
Or a specific species?
