is it possible that I accidentally transported spores to work on my clothes?
    #19486191 - 01/28/14 01:11 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

so I left work on sunday, and when I came back on tuesday I find these patches of what looks like possible myc on the floor of my room. it is winter so I initially thought "oh, it's just salt on the floor", but upon closer inspection I noticed that it was branched out as if it had been growing (can't say I've ever seen salt do this).I looked all over the building and my room is the only one with these spots, and they just happen to be where I hang my coat and backpack. I figure they could have grown in some water puddles left by some shoes. idk tell me if I'm way off.

Petri dish it like 19× says. Then show us the results. We have had cubes growing in 33degree weather in Cental FL this Jan. But the cold only lasted 3 days but it never topped 55 for 5days. Would be stranger than fiction if it is my.

It almost looks a lot like fiber from fiberglass cloth, with some dust from the sanding resins. Im sure its not but could us a little insight of what your work entails. This has me really intrigued, and hope you find out what this is.

petri dish was my first thought, but I'm such a noob that I'm nowhere near playing with dishes and agar yet.
sololas - no sanding or anything at my work. actually it requires a very clean environment.

so, I found out the ice melter that we used was calcium chloride and not salt. I can't find any images of salt or calcium crystals that look like this, but the resemblance between the patterns in the spot and the growth on this cake are uncanny.

I think it's ice melter crystals.

What nutrition would there be on the floor to sustain this growth?

Also, it doesn't seem to radiate from any germination points.

a sample from the floor? you're going to grow 100 nasty things along with and never be able to tell what the hell you had...

it's not mycelium... it doesn't even look close.

right on! like I said "I'm a total noob". thought it would be interesting if it were possible, and I never saw any ice melter crystals like that before. thanks for engaging.
