Grow bag not fully colonized but I'm scared to shake it up again

Alright, so first off, I have a weird way of growing mushrooms. It's probably a lazy method, but so far it has worked for me with a lot of success. I buy grow bags, let em' colonize, then bust them open and substrate it with 50/50 peat/verm. You know, give it a sizable surface area so I can get a larger yield.
But I'm not here to talk about my method (or lack of sophistication of said method, lol). I'm here to ask you guys about this particular dilemma involving a certain grow bag I have.
In the past I've had grow bags die on me after shaking em' up too much (you know, when you gently mix the bags 2 or 3 times to get them fully colonized faster). Recently I purchased 4 bags. 3 of which fully colonized. I shook/mixed them all the same amount of times. Well this last bag is going MUCH slower...in fact I had to shake it up two more times than the others. And it's still not fully colonized. It sits at 75% with no signs of growth.
Should I shake it again? I got a bad feeling this one is going to die if I do that. Or can I use the colonization portion as is? I really don't want the bag to die on me in vain so I was pondering the idea of busting it open and making a 50/50 peat/verm cake with the portion that is colonized. Or would that be automatic failure?
Any tips would greatly be appreciated, I'll be sure to send ratings to any who can help me out here.

it's never a complete waste to try something, I watched a guy birth a trich cake, and it still fruited, and fought off the trich. Mycellium at a full growth can be very strong. anywho, try and wait on that bag another week, if you see no growth, I would go ahead and mix and cover. then fruit, see what happens. the new nutrients from the mix might really help, also maybe think about incorporating poo into this combo...haha
be safe,

Good stuff, bud. Thanks. 5 coming your way.
I think I'll give it some more time and if it's still stalled, I'll give it a shot like you said.

I'll post some pics when I get back home (working third shift right now), but I mean I'd put the bag at a solid 75%. And that may even be a conservative estimate. It may be actually closer to 80-85%.
Idk man the other bags colonized beautifully but this last one is just lagging and lagging.

seems like u have had enough experience with that kind of grow. i'd go with ur gut...something is probably wrong.
that said, i'd case like u would the other bags but just fruit it away from the others. sounds like bacteria if u don't see any off colors. only cause like u said, so use in wasting good spawn, but good spawn doesn't stall so...its up to you
i've had success with spawning bacteria jars to coir. never tried casing straight grains with possible bacteria though.
definitely post pics for more accurate advice
kinda off topic, but i work 3rd shift too!! just got home!! (early night, its usually 7am clock out with 20 minute bike ride home)

Good advice. I'll keep it away from the others. And I've had bags stall before, but usually it's early in the process (not too far after inoculation). I'll get like 20% colonization and then it will slow to a crawl until I shake em'. Then I'll come check back in a few days and it will double or triple when it comes to colonizing. But in the past usually 2 (maybe three max) shake ups will complete the bag -- but this one is taking an unusual amount of shake ups. Thus the reason I'm hesitant to do it again...I'd hate to kill the bag completely when it's already at 75 to 85 percent.

Will do. About to head home now.

I have permanent sleep disorders from too many years on graveyard shift. Trust me, it isn't worth the paycheck for what it does to your body for the rest of your life. I've been off graveyards for over ten years now, but still can't get a decent night's sleep.
When a spawn bag stalls, it's for a reason. If the filter patch isn't blocked, then you have a contamination of some sort, probably bacteria. You can usually squeeze the bag gently and get a good whiff of order through the filter patch. If it's sweet or sour, vinegar, etc., toss it. RR

I also have such a problem after working unregulated times for years. I have a very big problem when I want to get back into a normal day rhythm. When I succeed and get into a day rhythm that makes me get up when the day starts and tired and able to sleep on time, that all is hanging on a real thin wire. One thing happens and I'm fucked again, having to restart the whole thing of getting up earlier every day till I'm where I want to be. The thing is, if you don't get up in the morning, you get less done in life. It took me years to realize that, but it is true.

Gotcha. Thanks.
And regarding the night shift -- yeah I've heard that. And that link is eye opening.
Scary stuff. I need top start looking at other avenues pretty soon.

yea i have seen many an article about it (shift work disorder thing). is kinda scary. its scary to read yea, but when someone like RR, or in real life actually confirms those reports, it really makes u think. in terms of getting more done though, i find i get more done working 3rd shift. mainly because i have little social life tho. i sleep from 9 or 10-4, do chores, mushroom stuff (transfers, innoculations, etc) then go to work. on my nights off, one of them is usually a grain prep/substrate prep night if needed, and the other night is for friends and testing the fruits of my labor
maybe its cause I'm more disciplined these days, but i never got this much stuff done on 1st or 2nd shift
