Inconsistent Growing Temperatures
    #19500858 - 01/31/14 11:28 AM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I did my first inoculation a few days ago and I got a temperature gauge to keep nearby. Because I live in a very old building the radiators are very inconsistent at keeping the building warm. Throughout the day the temperature fluctuates between 75F-62F.

Does the fluctuation matter while I wait for the jars to colonize? If so would it be a better alternative to keep my jars in a closet that is uneffected by fluctuations and basically stays around 62F all time?

I have the same issue and i have not noticed huge issues. As long the temp is not staying as low as 62 for more then a couple hours you will be fine. Mine space hearer is messed up and sometimes its 68 and sometimes it goes up to around 80 without messing with the temp and my jars are fine

Have had this same issue and was actually curious about it myself.

Better off to fluctuate than constantly be at 62. Growth will be very slow at 62.

I've read that you will get denser fruits if toughest at lower temps. Although I'm sure  it would take a bit longer

Invest in an oil radiator. This will turn any room into the best incubation chamber you've ever used.

That being said, I feel like a flux in the temperatures wouldn't be an issue as  long as it stays between 62-80 , I'd just expect it to take a little longer.

for colonizing grains it can become an issue but for fruiting subs it's not an issue at all, just watch for condensation build up from the temp differences
