I'm setting the whole complete kit up tonight on a pearl icon drum rack. I have 4 pearl mcx toms, 2 pearl reference toms, a pearl reference bass--all in natural maple, and the following cymbals:
Paiste 15" 2002 Sound Edge Hi Hats Paiste 22" 2002 Ride Paiste 20" 2002 Power Ride Paiste 20" 2002 China Crash Paiste 22" 2002 Crash Paiste 18" 2002 Power Crash Paiste 16" 2002 Crash Paiste 16" Signature fast Crash
All the hardware is pearl AHS hardware, the bass drum pedal is a P2002C Eliminator double bass pedal, and my main snare is a Pearl 14x6.5 Ian paice signature steel snare drum.
I'll post pics after its set up. I'm going to play it with brushes 'cause hitting those fuckers with sticks will bring the cops.

I'm interested in the nature of different wood types with respect to percussive sorts of things. What can you tell me?
Seems like a cool setup but I know pretty much nothing about the drumming world.

I got the 20x18 bass, 12x8 tom, and 16x14 reference drums on ebay for really cheap. I couldn't afford them at regular retail. the 16x14 is ultra low sounding tom, just sick.
But the mcx toms sound good too, the fit well with the reference toms.

shells, including the snare--6 toms a snare and a bass-- $3700 cymbals--for all the paiste cymbals and hi hat about $2200 icon rack and hardware, some extra cymbal stands, tom stands, clamps, holders, etc-- $1200 cases about $800
altogether about $7500 And I got some of it used.
Freakin' hardware and cases and stuff cost nearly as much as the shells.
I should have picked up a kit but i just grabbed pieces when i had money and they popped up on ebay.
My drum teacher who is the house drummer at a major studio here, is going to have me set up the drums at the studio and we are going to tune and record them to see how they play in a studio environment.
I already know how they play in a live environment.
The drum I like the most is the 20x18 reference bass. that fucker has low end that you can feel but not hear.
