Cambodians - final pics before first harvest. GREAT RESULTS

Here they are, my very fast growing healthy cambodians. Couldn't be happier with my first grow, apart from maybe size but the numbers make up for it. Gypsum next time

 Mature cake

 The forest
This one has the biggest cap. Only 3.5cm across

 A hike up mount shroom

Ecuadorain 2nd flush coming into the later stages on 1kg rye grain cake
I'm going to give these about 8 more hours to give the late runners a chance to catch up, but I don't want too many spores. The few in the centre left have already been triggered. Too much more and I'll bring an end to this operation and pull the boys out of there.
Can't wait to see what the second flush brings. Should I dunk the cake? What's the procedure from here on out?

Wow! That's a nice first grow! Did you use the PF Block TEK for that big cake? Was that from a clone or isolate?

Thank you both very much. Yes I am currently a proud father of dozens of tiny cambodians (now there's a sentence I never thought I would say).
The big cake is just half a block of coco coir, a large cup of verm and a 1kg colonized rye grain bag (a mycofarm I realised I could massively improve from when I discovered bulk during my research). I threw the coir, verm and 1 litre of boiling water into a bag and tied it off to pasteurize. After 4 hours I added the spawn and left it to colonize in the bag, hence the shape. It was done in ten days at most. After adding it to the FC it developed knots in 3 days, pins in a further 3 days and this yield in a further 5 days. This was just from a simple MS inoculation on rye grain, you can see multiple varieties on the cake. I'm looking forward to moving onto agar or LC in the future and adding gypsum for larger fruits.
I also have the added advantage of having a quality camera for high resolution pics like this. One happy newbie

I think the key to this grow has been the temperature I got it up to. I was aiming for mid 70's but it slipped up to 80-81 and once I kept it there things really took off. They've had plenty of FAE and the humidity has been pretty constant at 95%. Also the use of a 15w 6500k CFL bulb about a foot from the surface definitely kicked things up once it was installed.
Once I start adding more to the sub this will be a great method to keep using. Though it won't be in block form next time but spread out in the tray. This method, plus nitrogen and gypsum from isolated genotype should equal a brilliant result

great grow, but I would always detour you away from cakelike objects, and move more into mono-tubs, they are infinitely easier, and the substrate thickness can be strictly controlled.

Yep don't you worry my friend I'm way ahead of you on that decision.
I had some mycofarm bags, 1kg rye grain. The instructions said to colonize then cut open the bag and add a casing layer and put the whole thing in a humidity tent. I did this at first then realised I can get WAY more out of this, so I began researching.
I found out about coir and because I lost a couple of mycofarms during the colonization stage (don't ask me why, some just didn't take) I decided to bulk this one up to make up for the losses.
While that was forming in a bag I discovered the monotubs and shotgun methods etc. Soon I had my ideal planned set-up, a deep tray and overturned clear plastic storage box but the bulk was already spawning in the bag in this shape. I've been itching to get this grow out of the way to move onto trays because that is how I will do it from the next grow onwards, makes far more sense to me and suits my needs perfectly.
Though for my first attempt I'm extremely happy with this, can't wait to grow trays of them.

I like trays much better. Everything can be controlled much easier and more accurately.
I started with monotubs, it can be perfect with the right procedure but its so much easier and better to use trays. Instead of having holes that are stuffed with polyfil you just put a hole in the cover of the tray and put a filter patch over it, which almost guarantees no contams.
Then you just take the cover off and leave it in your SGFC, or if the trays are thick you can birth them like cakes and have several bricks of bulk substrate.

With mushies, more smaller ones is preferable because they are more potent. So your overall quality will be better like this instead of less big mushrooms.
Congrats on that half brick cake.

Yeah I totally agree on the potency side of things, I guess it's just a man thing. I want big shrooms. Well I dunked the coir and now we go for round two. Awesome

Something I read said that smaller shrooms are more potent per gram because the potency is divided amongst many shrooms rather than just a single capper . Also, small fast growing shrooms are desired traits for isolates /clones.
I assume these were quickies and took off almost overnight. Birthing magic
