What Book To Buy? * 1
    #19493788 - 01/29/14 09:10 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

There are a few different books on the market that involve fungus and mushrooms used for different things.
So which book do i get? I want one that is descriptive on each strain and have good pictures in color.

What do you mean by strain?

Cube strains?

You are probably on the single best mushroom growing resource on the entire planet, no book is gonna do better than the shroomery.

If you want a book about general mushrooms and identification you could get "mushrooms demystified" or an interesting read on active mushrooms "psilocybin mushrooms of the world: and identification guide".  However like everyone else said if you want up to date info on cultivation just read up on the shroomery.  Most of the books out are really old and use ancient techniques.

Ok. I know the shroomery is the best. I'd just like a book so if I want to start hunting I know what each one looks like that grows in my region.
Thanks guys.

Petersons Field Guides are well written and have lots of pics, but you would have to be in North America.
I dunno if you are.

If you're interested in growing, you should definately check out stamets GGMM, has tons of pics, although only a few in colour, aswell as detailed (growing) information on all relevant species (minus cubensis) and growing in general

Was a well worth investment for me

Isn't that considered very outdated now?

some of it probably, but i still go back to it sometimes (not for cubes tho)
the only thing i don't like about that book is there is so much "instruction" and "directions for"  lab personnel and what each should be doing.  for example, instead of just describing G2G transfers, there is a whole 5 pages about how to deploy each person on your mushroom farm for better efficiency during g2g and what each should be doing, kinda as if stamets was writing an instruction guide for how to run a mushroom spawn lab/grow house in addition to how to grow mushrooms.
I'm reading a lot of it now cause I'm just getting into edibles.  so I'm using a lot of the growing parameters and sawdust recipes, etc.  i'd probably not spend $40 on it tho (it was a gift).

I'm with the "buy Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms" crowd.

Even for actives, it still has a lot of good info...it is priceless for gourmets though.
