Making spore prints
    #1949849 - 09/25/03 12:14 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

SO, I am having problems printing my caps. I am getting too much moisture which results in a pool of water underneath the cap. I have a little piece of tin-foil shaped into a bowl holding some DampRid. All of this is under an upside down pint glass. Any suggestions?

if was to make a print i'd make sure i sat the glass on a clean teatowel, and the paper i was printing on smaller than the glass so the towel can be seen inside the glass.ie have the rim of the glass touching the towel and the paper in the middle.

no damprid, its probably sucking the moisture out the shroom to quickly, they have to drop em at there own pace.also you need a bit of air exchange thats why you have a towel there so it can breath.
goodluck

My friend had the exact same problem... now she always puts the cap in the bottom of a sterile half pint glass, then replaces the lid with a coffee filter for gas exchange. If you need a print you can mail, throw the primting material in a tupperware container and replace the lid with........a coffee filter. So, like her poor gas exchange is creating moisture, and coffee filters will solve that. Mad props go out to whoever thought that up, brilliant it is.

I put a couple of cocktail sticks on the print foil to lift a cap a little of the surface. It allows a little air exchange under the cap, which stops the condensation. I find I get excellent heavy prints with not wet patch.

I use a half pint mason jar with a coffee filter as the cap, and on the coffee filter I have a small pack of dissicant. This way i get a spore print i can either stick a cap on and store for a good while, or i can just shoot some water through the filter using a syringe. works for me
