They made a ceasefire.

If you think about it, this happens in the wild all the time. Nature does not have sterile spots that at the same time is suitable for mushroom growth.

Also, no forest or plain births P. cubes all over it's surface throughout the year because of this.

Sterile technique is important because of repeatability and yield. Also, some bacteria and mould can be very unhealthy, and rumour says that toxins might even get sucked up by the mushroom mycelium (anyone cares to throw in some science on this?).

Recently a few of my agar plates caught a minor bacterial infection. Match-head sized red, brown, and yellow spots, slowly growing about 1 cm from the mycelium frontline. Their growth first slowed down, and then halted to be run over by the Pleurotus ostreatus filaments a few days later. Agar-grain and grain-to-grain transfers from that plate went all right.

Sometimes the bacteria and the mushroom can coexist, sometime one consume the other.

Sterility is for health, yield, and repeatability.

once a cake fully colonizes it can normally deal with bacteria on it's own:thumbup:
and if mushrooms did indeed absorb or msuck up toxins my mushroom picking seasons would be killing people lol

Yepp, that's I'm thinking about too.

Mushrooms however do suck up heavy metals, maybe here's a confusion regarding bacterial toxins.

The other logic behind this is that in a confined environment toxins have nowhere to go, and can appear in much higher contentrations than in the wild.

Also, people don't pick half-rotten mushrooms in the forest.

This is why I asked for some piece of evidence regarding this.

you aint kidding dude. the hawk man told me  " enjoy.. those things are on steroids". and he was right. colonization was waaay slower than the b+ or teachers but guess which one wound up giving me fruits first  these pinned invitro and i got about 6 grams wet out of each jar. i had looked at them 3 days earlier and there werent primordia or even knots yet. next time i looked they were spreading all over the jar begging for some air and water.

yes but they don't rot because they sucked up bacteria, they rot because there dead. but however if you took a wild fruit and scoped it you could easily find a couple hundred diffrent types of molds/spores inside and out of the fruit so:shrug:

They can absorb heavy metals I believe but not mycotoxins.
