Syringe question

I was just wondering instead of scraping my spores into a shot glass then sucking them up I could just pull the plunger out and let the spores fall directly in the syringe right. I mean I know technically yeah I could do that. Just wondering if there was any reason I shouldn't. I couldn't think of any right off. Whats your thoughts on this?

sounds like a pain in the ass, but as long as your syringe and the water you use are sterile, thats the only problem I see with that

Once the plunger is out its hard to put back in when there is spores or liquid in the barrel of the syringe. Putting the plunger back will displace air/liquid depending on how you do it

It could remove a vector for contamination, the shotglass. However I can also see it being difficult and messy. How will you keep the water from pouring out the needle when you pull out the plunger?

I would honestly point you in the direction of making syringes with a baby bottle, the nipple works perfect for repeated syringe filling, and works wonders when going fast.

But how do you sterilize it? Are baby bottles autoclavable?

It'd be a pain the ass. You can make a whole jar of spore solution. Sterilize a jar of water(50 - 150ml depending on the size of your print) and your syringe with water in it. Have an RTV self healing injection port on your jar. Scrape your print with a sterile blade. Hold the the scraped print over the open jar and use your sterile water in the syringe to shoot it on the print to get the spores in the jar. Shake your jar. Re-sterilize your needle and pull a spore syringe out any time you need it. Re-sterilizing your needle every time first.

A half pint jar with a hole in it and some high temp caulking over the hole is PC'able. And you probably have a few lying around.

Ok thanks guys. Yeah I wont do it that way. I'll stay with the tried and true method. It was just a thought. I knew you all would know if they was to much risk.
