How to leave the nest?
    #1949670 - 09/24/03 11:11 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I'll be 18 soon and I have two years of high school left.
My dad is an idiot.
- Started a business in advertising, failed because didn't know anything
- Started another business, his "friend" fucked up over, the friend is in jail, we had to file for bancrupcy
- My mom and I told him to stop, he does not listen to anything we say
- The lawyer fucked up, we lost a truck and a car, even though other lawyers say it was taken by the bank illegally they still won't take the case (too complicated, too much work for "them")
- I go to a private school, got a possibly good future
- No car, can't go to work, parents can't take me to work
- Basicly my dad left me with no fuckin money, I am fucked unless I leave and start my own life.

Now here is the question for you people, what do I do?

1. Continue into college, find a cheap ass car for work (little money for college, but I will probably get a scholarship, help from government)

2.Or join marines, server my 4 years and take my money to college.

gotta go with #1 on that one. unless you want the gayest option and in that case I suggest full speed ahead with the navy.

#1 will be the best solution for you. it will be hard during those times but i know for a fact that you will pull through it. then after everything is fine in the future you can look back and think of the struggles u went through and you'll feel like u've accomplished a lot

#1 but you don't really need a cheap ass car, fuckin buss it everywhere, I know it sounds like quite the bitch but I sold my car to save for college. Not too hard once you et used to it all colleges have many busses going to them. Think about it, say you find a car for 500, i dunno what insurance is there but here 1200 a year, plus gas, a low estimate of 500 a year.... grand total of 2200 and thats only if your 500 car magically doesn't have any problems for a year. That could go a long way towards tuition

Go through the orange yesterday

I watched intently for a while to both sides, infront of me and behind me.
I was impressed to learn there was another way to look... UP!
More impressive still was the fact that there were beautiful stars in this direction
Most amazing fact of all was the prospect of another direction when I was done with up. DOWN! Which, based on the feel through my toes would be a fine sandy beach!

What about chilling with friends? I'll need a car for weekends unless I study everyday for four years or longer depending on my classes.

imo, the best thing you could do is find a job now and try to save any money you can. once you finish high school move to a city. when you're there you wont need to worry about a car as theres plenty of public transportation. find yourself a job and an appartment, but be aware that at first the apartment is probably gonna be shitty (unless you make good $$ during teh rest of high school). once you've got a job and earned yourself some cash, try finding a college in the city you can take classes at. it may take a while, but you'll do fine, and once youve got your college degree you'll be able to get a better job, better apartment and things will get a lot better for you. goodluck, i hope everything works out for you. if you put your mind to it, you'll figure out what you need to do.

putting yourself throught school is hard but you can do it. i'm doing it; slowly. there's so much you can do with your life if you actualy get the education. it is not your only option but it counts for soooo much down the road when you want to be able to live comfortably.

do you have long term goals?
if so, do you have short term goals?
it is a great help to actualy write them down. set target dates/timeframes for them and figure what has to be doen to get you there.

you can do it.

don't be daunted when you don't succeed imediately, almost nobody does.

tough stuff, DFP!  Life is full of surprises :mad2:

I have no doubts that if I were you and were faced with 1 & 2 I'd pick 1 without hesitation.

Now joining an army is an age-old respectable profession and with that I have no bone to pick, but considering the American politicians that are in command of that army you might as well join the Jihad. You are 17 and like to see some action, but if you join the US marines in this day & age you might see a whole different kind of action than you have bargained for.

The younger you are the better you can learn new stuff. Now at 19 it is already on the wane, but at 23 your grades will likely be a little less than they could be right now. You're in the educational process and if you flow that from highschool into college smoothly you have a better chance of long-term independence and money.

Do not worry about gov't help. If you seriously consider joining the marines you likely have got what it takes to make it in the real world.

College kinda preps you for independance and independant thinking. The marines needs you to do what you're told.
It seems to me that this too would hamper the flow to college.

Cheap car? Hell, given that choice I'd ride a donkey to college!
Best of luck!
