Are Pans supposed to look like this?
    #19493171 - 01/29/14 07:00 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

These look like snowflakes to me. Something isn't right. Bacteria?

I know that the Allenii isn't a Pan but it looks funky. One is a Red Down Under and the Other is Goliath. I've never worked with them before.

Any pointers?

Contam or not that's kick ass! You should buy some casting resin and make an awesome paperweight if those turn out to be contaminated.

I wanna say bacteria also but this looks so odd and new to me.  Never seen these strains look like this on petri.

Really? I'm not doubting you at all or anything, but in my experience bacteria looks more like a tentacle shaped jello spill on agar. Haha.

^^^ That is true, but there's a bunch of different kinds of bacteria that all have their own look.  This one is just intriguing tho.  I could be wrong.  Just my best guess since I haven't seen anything that looks like snow flakes yet till now.

I'm stumped. I used the same MEA that I've always used and have never seen anything like it. I've heard that Pans colonize (grow) quicker than cubes but this is on the verge of ridiculous (for me).

I'd guess contam, but I don't know what kind. Did you get the syringe from a vendor? Regardless, it looks cool and I'd totally be preserving it!

I think that I'll take pictures and then toss them. It's a mystery to me and I don't like mysteries when doing mycology work.

Thanks for the replies.

I have had bacteria that looks just like this, only it was growing around the rim of the dish. I would say that is most certainly contaminated.
