v.low risk syringe injection technique.
    #1949247 - 09/24/03 09:09 PM (14 years, 1 day ago)

someone tell me why this wont work.
cover jars of substrate with 3ply heavy duty aluminum foil, autoclave, shake n cool, jab the needle through the foil 5x dripping in a minimum ammount of spore water/myc water to leave 5 tiny holes in the foil. shake to distribute and incubate.

any foreseeable problems?

Why would you shake after sterilization?

Also there is nothing protecting the substrate from outside air coming in.  There is no verm barrier or any filter.  So after you make your holes it'll be risky.  Especially after you shake there will be substrate at the sides of the jar near the top.

P.S.  Everyone my clone's bulk substrate is colonizing fine.  W00t!

EDIT:  Since you are shaking you might as well make one hole.  Then you could put a bandaid over the hole and it should work.

you are just inviting in Mr Cobweb and Mr Trich if you go that route. now if you use a verm barrier you might be okay, but i would like a good lid on that sucker. but you act as though you are using grain, with the shaking and such. provide more info then the folks here might could provide you with some help.

use 2 plys of foil the bottom ply tight against the jar the top not so tight, sterilize, let cool, inoculate through both plies then turn the top ply 15 or so degreesso the hole no longer match up..probaly might work....

I't simple: Find a sponge that is very resilent while wet...A dish sponge wont work...Use a car washing sponge or better yet a cosmetic sponge...All you do is cut a sponge slightly longer than the needle and about 1" thick (it will be a long rectangle ). Wet the sponge with alcohol...squeeze out excess alcohol...then slide the sponge over the needle....Now when you inject and remove the needle from a jar the sponge bounces back to keep the needle covered and moist with alcohol...Just to make sure I always squeeze and twist the sponge on the needle to make sure it is wet before each injection.

bandaid is brilliant. and one hole will do just fine for grain, as youre shaking anyhow. the rotation of the foil layer is great too. infact, a combination of the two would probably be best. my latest bunch of syringe needles are extra big (long and wide) so ill definately be using this.

magash: alcohol will fuck spores. isnt having a wet needle going to put alcohol right where the spores are going? wont that kill your spores, or is the effect negligable?

oh, also, if using mycelium saturated water as the injection medium, wount this make the substrate too soggy, or is only a tiny ammt. of the mycelium needed to colonise a jar?

Alcohol will kill spores but there is only a tiny amount of alcohol and alot of pore solution comes out. So go ahead and you'll be fine. And Magash is always right.
