Bruising?
    #19492125 - 01/29/14 04:11 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I have 7 Qts of G2G Creeper that were done on the 24th. They've been shaken once. All of them have a discoloration at the top. The color isn't a true blue as I would expect from bruising, but all of them look like this:

It's just at the top of each jar. I have virgin lids with SFD disks siliconed on per a reliable TEK. This happened when I shook them the first time. The jars recovered nicely and then this discoloration showed up again. I don't want to shake them again because they seem a little bit on the dry side. Any thoughts?

it's hard for me to tell in the pictures. It could be penicillin or some sort of yeast. You'll be able to smell when you open them to spawn, maybe someone else can lend a eye I'm on a 3 year old netbook with a dim screen

Hmmm, never had grains bruise on me. But you shook them up over a week ago, and they recovered so it seems. you'll have to rely on the sniff check once you get ready to spawn them. Shouldn't smell like anything but fresh mushrooms.

They all smell like fresh mushies (through the filters)and they ALL have the same discoloration at the top only. I already know better than to ask "If I remove the top layer, would that get rid of the contaminates" question. I would really hate to lose these guys.

I just looked at them in a bright light and they seem to have discolored grains throughout, not a whole lot, but they're there.

I guess I'll wait another week and shake them again and see what happens.

If you shake them again and they are contam free it should recover. Hope it's fine. How old is that G2G spawn run? I'm nearing the end of my G2G because of the mycelium getting geriatric and getting shitty colonization.

I have a nice, big, fresh, dark print of Creeper that I acquired in a trade. I inoculated a rye jar with agar wedges on the 20th, it colonized quickly and on the 24th I did a G2G of 7 jars. On the 27th, they were all white so I shook them. This is 2 days after the shake. They are recovering nicely, except for the discoloration phenomena. They all smell like fresh mushrooms and will be done again in probably less than 2 days. I am going to cross my fingers that they will recover.

I am going to knock up three more agar dishes tonight from the print. I'll see what happens.

Sounds legit. You should make a slant, and then make dishes for transfer from that slant. That'll keep your genetics on point.

That is my intention. I'm trying to get away from cubes but this one is new to me. I want to make my own print.
