Does my mini SGFC look okay?
    #19490923 - 01/29/14 11:21 AM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I used a screwdriver and lighter to put holes two inches apart on all sides. I want to make sure it's a workable fruiting chamber before it's too late, thoughts?

looks good, I would put a little more perlite in and lay the cakes on their sides.  put them close together too

Looks like it needs more perlite. It's just too short; I understand. But you might not get high enough humidity.

Thanks for the replies. I added in more so it has a three inch layer of perlite now and I put the cakes on their side.

Aww, it's so cute!

Definitely move the cakes closer together, on their sides isn't a bad idea either to get them closer to the source of the humidity.

it's better than nothing, but I reccomend the SGFC to be high enough to fit 5 inches of perlite plus a cake which is 3-4 inches plus room for mushrooms so about 4 more. So I would really go for something like 15inches tall as the minimum guideline for a SGFC the width and length don't really matter too much but being able to fit the layer of perlite cake and headspace is the more important thing.

Yeah I would have built a full size fc but space limitations made it not an option. I know my mushrooms might not be the prettiest when they grow but as long as I can grow some I'll be happy.

Needs to be taller, but you're on the right track.
