Im a newbie here. I have made 12 pf tek jars. After reading the pf tek instructions, and the many revised and improved versions, Im a whole week into my grow, and i have a few questions, if anyone could help. I have 4 jars with a Z strain, 4 with a Gold cap strain, and 4 with a China strain. I have read that the cakes need air exchange, to leave the inoculation holes uncovered, where the original pf tek says to keep jars tightly closed, unless there is moisture build up. Which is correct??? My other question is can i put cakes from different stains in the same fruiting chamber without some-sort of divisor between the cakes?? I appreciate all the advice.

Leaving tape on the innoc holes is perfectly fine, you will want to remove the foil.
You'll have no problem fruiting different varieties of cakes in the same chamber.

I always put my lids on kind of loosely, but not overly loose, I remove the foil, and don't use tape.

there's different strains in your cakes already. A strain is two spores mating. Your jars have 1000s of strains in them. The name is just a variety. It's like putting a catholic jar in with a jewish jar except it actually won't lead to any violence in your fruiting chamber.

The tape is unnecessary. The verm layer is the only filter you need.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I do have one more question that just arose. I live in the deep south and this cold blast knocked out our power, so my grow room got down into the 50s. is this ok? Its now back on the jars are fine, but that cold snap wont hurt will it?
