food dehydrator @ 160F 12-24 hours is pretty much the standard of the whole shroomery. You can do a bunch of other things but that's the best and fastest way. Quick dry with heat for potency retention.
after that put in a ziplock and put into a glass jar or tupperware with a good lid and they'll stay for months if not years.
Use a desiccant pack if you're only storing in a ziplock and want to do so for more than a few months.

I think the consensus here is get a food dehydrator.

I set my harvest in a cardboard box for a few days with a fan blowing on them , then once they're at 50% dry I toss them into a dehydrator until they're cracker dry
I've read people who use Epsom salt as a dehydrating medium but I have no experience with it.
Before owning a dehydrator I would air dry all my shrooms and I never noticed an effect in potency

might as well toss them in the dehydrator right away. Oxidation is the cause of potency loss. The less air the better that's why we use heat plus air IE the dehydrator so they're exposed the least amount of time. There's no noticeable potency loss using 150-170F dehydrators for 24 hours.

window screen on a fan will get them pretty dry. Another option to get them drier is a container with a separate chamber filled with damp rid. That's what I do with my portos.
I believe heat isn't good. But then if that's what everyone selling these days here that's fine. I have used a dehydrator but the damp rid works better for dryness I need to achieve. Just don't put them into the Damp Rid container before drying them a bit or you'll have a mess!

I just bought my dehydrator and it's so convenient. Totally worth it in the long run.

heat doesn't degrade the actives until you start getting way hotter than a dehydrator goes.
to use a desiccant chamber the shrooms already have to be 80-90% dry otherwise the desiccant is going to fail, it's only meant to keep things dry not dehydrate them. It will dehydrate them a little bit if they're already nearly dry. It's not the best method but it works in a pinch, but if you have to buy damprid or something you might as well buy a dehydrator.
Portabellas don't usually get dried to cracker crisp like shrooms do.

I've never been able to dry something to the degree I can with Damp Rid. But the dehydrator works well too, I'm just not crazy about any heat. As for Ports, the drier you can get something the longer it's shelflife is going to be given proper packaging. When you make more than you can use you have to find a way to save the extra for later.
As for the psycho-actives. I knew a friend who would dry his stuff so well, then he'd grind it in a grinder. This made for an efficient way to measure accurate quantities and keep dosing very controlled and consistent so as to keep surprises to a minimum. Ingestion was usually sprinkled in a drink.

that doesn't really help get consistent dosing when you consider that every fruit from ms will vary in potency, but i get ya

Seems to me that grinding up everything and mixing it, is pretty much the textbook solution to varying potency

You want cheap?
I'll give it. Just take a big paper bag and put it on its side. Cut some holes in the wide side of it facing up, you can cut long slices too. It just directs the air over the fruits and up the top. Place your mush on paper towels inside the bag and place your office fan in front of it. You can just use newspaper as well if you have a lot. Just put the fruits on the dry paper and blast them with a fan. Might need paper weights.
Takes a little longer but you can get em as dry as you want unless its 80F and 95% RH. In that case you got no choice but the dehydrator.
Good Luck, -CK

they don't lose potency overnight it's a months thing with improper storage. Put them in the fridge in a paper bag, eat them fresh then.
