You don't want plaster.  You want agricultural gypsum.  It's used for breaking up clay soils, and for neutralizing salts from chemical fertilizers after the farmers trash their soil.

From wikipedia: When the dry plaster powder is mixed with water, it re-forms into gypsum.

So add some water and let it harden, then grind it up with a mortar or beat it with a hammer or rock until it is a fine powder.  You might want to sift it through a fine strainer first before use.
If you don't have a strainer you might put the unfiltered powder into the center of a piece of cloth and wrap up the corners until you have a pouch, then shake it onto a sheet of cardboard or plastic
to catch the fine powder that comes out.

I've heard of people using gypsum from "drywall" also known as "plaster-board" or "gypsum board" or "sheetrock" with success.  Drywall is made from with a lot of gypsum, plus a few other materials, mostly paper.

I have gotten drywall spacers from the Big Box store for free.
I just break off a bit, beat it with a hammer until powdered.
One spacer will last me a lonnnng while.

:peace:

One seven bag dollar of gypsum will last me indefinitely and it's a lot easier than breaking up drywall.

Very true.
It does take me some effort, but it won't spill, and is easily stored.
Oh, and free.

Warning some sheetrock is mold resistant so avoid the green papered stuff for sure.
