1st post. Mushroom genetics
    #19476554 - 01/26/14 12:25 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

Hello all, I have been visiting the shroomery for several years and it consistently proves to be a valuable resource.  Until now I haven't really participated in many threads on here,. You guys have helped me with quick go-to info so I'll try to be a contributing member of the community. I grow several different types of oysters shitake and of course cubes. I just want to hear thoughts on genetics from spore prints I have a friend several states from me and  he recently  started an oyster grow from a print he took himself from a viable strain. The print was stored for a few months then hydrated germinated agar grain yada yada.. The problem is he can't get them to fruit. I have. Seen his set up and I know he grows tens of pounds a month , it's not humidity temp ect. We're both kinda scratching our heads, what are he chances of the mycelia being healthy and happy the whole life cycle and just not fruit? Seems like the fungus would  know if it's not capable of reproducing and just give up. Otherwise what's the point?  Anyway thoughts and comments are certainly appreciated. Thanks  for taking the time....

Multi-spore can be a crap shoot. It's happened before. Not to say that there's not some other reason possibly.
