ATL#7 Fruiting
    #19475976 - 01/26/14 09:48 AM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I am completely new to this delightfull hobby, and with a good portion of research and luck I am finally starting to see some pins sprouting through the casing layer.

Question is, how fast (or slow) can I expect them to grow?

They should about double in size every day. Don't worry, you've come this far. It's just a matter of waiting now. Should be less than a week!

Hey op, what are atl7 fruits like compared to cubes? I've got them in bags and on agar and they're slow as hell, but what's your experience with fruiting them?

Yeah, atl7 are usually grown for truffles so it's really cool that he got fruits out of them.

Since I´m on a tight budget, my main objective with the first grow was to get fruits so that i can make some prints for trading and future grows.

I did harvest some truffles when i cased the substrate (about 60 grams from four 1/2pint jars) but I´m not expecting much from them since they were quite young, about 5-6 weeks from inoculation to harvest.

Wow, that much from a few half pints?!? I've got 5 bags with a total of 25 pounds colonizing!

I hope it turns out well. If it does, I think you are in for a crazy harvest.

How long are you planning to let them grow for?

I know, I'm excited as hell. They're so slow they might all contam before they colonize though. And I was thinking 3 months, then I'll open one bag and eat all of them before I move into the next. Hopefully it'll be quite some time before I get to bag number 5 and they'll be potent as hell and I'll have more bags on the way.

Whitch tek are you using?

I started a bunch of bags about ten days ago, and i shook 'em up the day before yesterday when they were about 30-40% colonized. when I checked in today they were all recovered, and the mycelium is already spreading wildly.

With my limited experience I´ve noticed that most of the truffles form along the edges of the glass in my jars. I don´t know if this is true for bags as well, but if it is; do you think it would be advantageous to introduce some kind of material into the substrate to create additional surfaces for the truffles to form on?

If its pinning already don't touch it.
If your talking about the bags, they will form within it also. No need to add extra stuff and possible contams.

I got 9 qts of rye berries colonizing right now. Only shook one jar because they apparently don't always recover from a shake.

They are really slow colonizers!

And wait till the caps are really flat before trying to print.

Check out Stonesun's easier than cubes posts.

well, I took the chance and shook all of my bags, and it seems to have sped up the process alot.

No tek in particular, just my own wbs prep. Some people say don't use wbs for truffles, but I'm a rebel. Haha. And I like your idea about putting another surface inside the bags. Maybe I'll drop in a flat piece of glass or slate next time and see how they turn out. Seems like a good idea to me.

I´m thinking a handfull of glass marbles (before sterilisation)

Have you been doing this for long?

I´m trying a couple of jars with wbs, just to prove them all wrong.. And some corn, and some straw.. I made a 1/2 litre of lc from my spore print as well, so I´m doing all kinds of experiments. (it´s free, so I might as well)

Well I've been growing mushrooms for a while, but I'm brand new to truffles. Marbles seem like a good idea too, or maybe a thin whiskey bottle. Of course that wouldn't fit into a jar, but if you're doing bags it might work out nicely.
