They are pp5 containers. The 5 is part of what tells you it's poly propylene:

Well yeah, but that's not the way to go about it. It's labeled PP because it's polypropylene. The 5 is used in the recycling warehouse for easy ID for separation.
Basically they're not meant for us and it's just extra shit you have to remember about each type of plastic.

You don't have to know anything about the other plastics. All you have to know is if they say this on the bottom they are safe to pressure cook.

This is why EVERYBODY here calls them pp5 containers.

That depends on your purpose. Not everyone here is only into growing mushrooms. This is why I give information that works for every purpose except recycling.
I'm not trying to start a war, I'm trying to fix one little point that everyone gets kinda wrong.

Everybody knows it's a recylcing code. But it's the recycling code for poly propylene hence why we call them pp5. Everybody doesn't have it kinda wrong, you don't have to bother trying to fix it. It's all good.

If not I'll try to hunt some down cause I've got my first batch in Bernardin Jars right now and I'm starting to worry about getting them out after reading all the threads on them.
Also I'd prefer not to go to Wallmart.
nope searched hi and low for them but to no avail not even wal-mart by the way, so I tried the plastic one but I didn't like them at all, they are soft so when you handle them it compact the content wich is no good. also the lid is concave si if your not aware of that you'll overfill the jar and the dry verw layer will disrupt when you put the lid on it.
that's when decided it was time to buy a presure cooker

If all else fails you buy the jars online. Check the sponsors.
The dry verm layer isn't a concern with filtered lids instead.

If I were to use PF cakes again, I'd probably use the 1/2 pint screw-top Glad brand polypropylene containers. I'd affix a SFD circle to the middle over a 1/8" hole, use 4 injection ports (not silicone, it doesn't stick well to plastic actual injection ports) and I'd inject a tiny drop of solution just beyond my injection ports to inoculate. No dry verm layer, the SFD and injection ports would take care of that.

Makes for a good lid/filter system. I didn't have any trouble getting silicone to stick to plastic though.

but the price it cost for a good boxes when thre shipping is added is only slightly cheaper than a pressure cooker.

I'm not sure where a pressure cooker is coming in to this? You're looking for jars or jar alternative. Doesn't really have anything to do with a pressure cooker other than if your deciding to go to grains instead of PF tek?
