substrates
    #19474366 - 01/25/14 10:40 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I have my casing in my fruing chamber and some mushrooms are coming out .
The casing is 70percent coir 20 verm 10 coffee.
But I did not cut up the coir and now some are getting stuck under the fibers so I cut some of them.Anything I can do?

Coir is not a casing material it is a bulk substrate. Casings are non nutritive. Not quite sure I understand your question though.

Just give them time, should poke through

Seems like it would be a horrible use to me and that it's just going to colonize it and not really serve much purpose as a casing layer.

no it doesn't, it acts like any other casing material, it's suitable because mold spores don't germinate on it:cool:

Hmm idk maybe I'm missing something here but wouldn't it pretty much just become part of the rest of the substrate?

And thanks for clearing that up OP.

Appreciate the info, I always thought it wasn't well suited for casings:shrug:

there are better options i find it drys faster then most casing material but sterilized coir works fine, in fact i'm gonn alate case my tray in a couple days with some you will see it in pasty's thread:cool:
