Just put my first 3 BRF cakes into fruiting, I have a few questions.
    #19472756 - 01/25/14 04:05 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

Hello everyone. I am finally at the fruiting stage on the PF tek. Here is the list of my gear and what you need to know:

-Colom rust spore strain
-half pint BRF/Verm cakes.
-FC is a sterilite tub about 13"deep X 28" long X 18" wide
-Fischer analog thermohygrometer. Link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EI03QUO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Okay, so I birthed 3 of my 7 cakes yesterday. Dunked for 18hrs and rolled. 100% colonized and looking great. The FC has 4" of washed and strained perlite. Instead of mist/fan I have an automated system hooked up using an ultrasonic cool mist humidifier. Link:

http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-Designer-Series-Filter-Humidifier/dp/B00G2WQR8O/ref=sr_1_5?s=appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1390690712&sr=1-5&keywords=honeywell+ultrasonic+humidifier

Tubing runs into the FC and provides FAE and moisture. It is on a timer and I am still working on what times are best. The temperature is also being automated in the tub by using a thermostat rigged up to a space heater that is heating the relative space around my FC. I am providing light to the FC using a light source that is on a timer. 12hrs on/12 off.

Here is my question: I am having trouble getting a RH above 90%. Even running my humidifier at full blast and forming a legitimate cloud inside the chamber, it will not surpass 90%. Will 90% be enough to form pins and produce good yields? Would misting as well help the humidity rise?

Sorry for this being a short novel and I would appreciate any advice i can get. Thank you

You should be fine at 90% or even a bit lower.

Are there holes in your fruiting chamber?

If you just put holes on all 6 sides you won't need a humidifier piping air directly into the fc (it's ok to humidify the room though, just keep the fan moving the air as far from the chamber as possible)

Also was your hygrometer calibrated after you bought it?

I put holes on the long sides of the FC. I followed a guideline that I found on this site by a trusted cultivator. I cannot seem to find the link at the moment and I will work on finding that for you. Basically, I drilled 1/4 holes in a pyramid shape. Just above the perlite layer, there are about 10 holes. 9 on the row above that row (spaced two inches apart each way). The pattern continues all the way to the top of the FC, leaving 3 holes on the top row. Should I leave it as such, or would you recommend that I drill more on every side?

You are not the first to tell me to eliminate the humidifier. I was really hoping to create an automated system since I work long hours and I am gone most of the day and cannot mist/fan 4 times each day. Is there a better way to make my system work? Thanks

edit: forgot to respond to your question about calibration. I read that I needed to wrap the unit in a wet paper towel and adjust the screw on the unit. However, mine does not have an adjustment screw anywhere that I can see. Maybe there is a another way to calibrate it. I will search the web now.
