Stright coir
    #19472202 - 01/25/14 01:35 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I have done a mix of Coir and verm for a couple years now, have had nothing but super results.  I just made a tub of straight coir, and I put some gypsum in the water before I added it to my brick of coir.. And the tub is blowing me away, after four days of sitting in the dark it is 98% colonized.. I wait ten day's, some time thirteen before I start FAE.. But the way it is looking I might be able to start it way before the thirteen day mark.. Just wanted to share this with any one who cares or is looking for a good way to use some coir.. Wish I could take pictures to show every one.  But I bet most of us .know what it looks like;) lol

No need to colonize in the dark

Right, the purpose of the vermiculite is to hold moisture.

Vermiculite can hold many times its weight in moisture content and expands
creating an airy non compact substrate.

I find that this may colonize faster, though end result will be below average.

I know what Verm is for, but thank you.. Guess we will see what happens.  Just saying it is looking fucking beast.. And as far as not putting your tub in the dark before your introduce FAE.. Well you do what you do but :smirk:

iv used strait coir and coir/virm mixes. They both preformed well but the mix preformed slightly better. As far as colonizing in the dark I didn't think anyone still did that.
