Petri dish storage

My petris are colonizing at the moment. Ive wrapped them with parafilm, but parafilm likes to break on me cause i guess i stretch it too much. So i put them into plastic bags as an added precaution. Will this hinder growth, inhibit gas exchange, etc?

I like to just take 3 squares worth of parafilm out for 2 dishes. I'll cut in half lengthwise and then wrap. If you're looking to save on that! Wrap them slower so it doesnt break :P
Should be fine in the bag though with or without parafilm

I always store my petris in plastic ziplock bags, 2-4 per bag.
To help prevent condensation, store the bags inside an insulated lunchbox to protect against temp swings

Thanks guys! and Im using 3 squares wrapped around 2 times. It always tears around the edges after a few days.

Use a longer strip that wraps twice around without becoming as tight. I use 4 squares for each dish, it gives a nice wrap twice around.

Yeah, learn to wrap them better. Parafilm is kinda tricky but easy at the same time. I don't keep mine in anything, they just sit on a shelf.
BTW, petris are referred to as agar plates once you pour them. My agar plates get poured then wrapped with Saran wrap and put in a gallon bag that just gets stored.

I dunno why I was so surprised the first time I used parafilm. It was so stretchy and broke constantly, nearly covered the entirety of my dishes, and took FOREVER to put on. Looking back it was hilariously awkward. It was the last thing I thought would be the most difficult in the whole process.
It's still my least favorite part of agar work, but I've got it down to 2 squares, cut lengthwise, for two dishes. I almost never break it anymore, either!
As for topic, I put the ones I want to save for a little while in a ziplock and stick them in the fridge. Haven't felt the need to bag them otherwise.

Do you guys cut your roll of para film down so it's easier to use on agar dishes?

I cut it in half lengthwise and use 2 1/2 squares per dish.

If you have to store a plate with some condensation left, would you leave it outside the plastic bag? I have one wrapped with micropore, in a bag, but not sealed, hoping the condensation will dissipate....good or no?

If you just keep the dishes at a steady temperature the condensation should dissipate regardless.

If ur in a hurry, You can always get rid of the condensation by placing a cup of hot water on the lid. By the time the water is cool the condensation will be gone
