Used the last of my petris...what else can I use?

So last night I was pouring my agar into petri dishes...and 5 dishes in it started clumping up and solidifying...FML I knew I should have poured an hour before =/
Anyways I have like 3 petris left I can pour...and I would really like to buy more I'm just kinda scared ordering them to my house. Anyone know of a place I could order 300-500 petris for a good deal?
I've also been interested in using those glad rounds or even some half pints for some agar work. I have plenty of plastic lids with SFD's made now, so I might as well put something to use! I'm not sure if my agar would dry out in the half pints though...and I've never done no-pour so I'm not too sure how to PC them, if anyone has some pointers..
Last question...would it be worth it to transfer some myc from a 2nd transfer plate (clean) to grains, or should I try to reduce the amount of genetics further to a third plate first?

you probably let it get too cold and you can stir up your agar mix with your wrist movement to keep it liquid unless it was too far gone

ebay, amazon, anywhere google takes you. Ordering petri dishes to your house is not sketch at all.

Search engine, there's like 10+ easy to find teks on using those as dishes as well as PC time etc..

If you want to.

PP5 plastic storage containers work well. Just look at the recycling code on the bottom of any plastic container if it says PP 5 you can PC it and it will work. Iv also used short wide mouth 1/2 pints. they work fine.

I would just buy 100 petris and use h2o2 agar
clean your plates with alcohol, then you can reuse them (submerge them in bleach solution first for some hours, so you don't get too many contams on your clothes) the h2o2 would keep contam to a minimum, but you can't grow from spores
nobody uses more than 100 petris, unless they throw them away like is usually done
100 petris = 5 sleeves of 20 in, maybe $30 with postage
if you buy petris it is very important they are vented..! or colonization will most likely stall half pint jars work fine for agar... just hard to stack if you want to do many transfers but some people prefer them... you can pre pour them before PCing.. nice benefit.. no hot pouring of agar
cleaning plates is hardly worth the time and money of alcohol, bleach cleaning , or PCing old jars new plates are like $.1 each might be better for the environment to actually buy more plates and trash them, but not sure assuming you dont do agar all the time... if you do all the time, I would buy glass maybe, for the enviroments sake

I was thinking of going glass or using petris that I could reuse, but eh I'd rather just throw away some disposable ones than spending time worrying about contams =/
I'll definitely be on the lookout for vented ones though, hopefully I dont make a wrong purchase.
For the half pints, I would just mix up the agar, pour into half pints, lid, tinfoil, and keep in the bottom of the pc? Could I stack the half pints when PCing or would that cause them to over boil from not being in the water?

glass ones are probably more slippery/harder to stack if you want to stack many
or so I heard.. but probably better for the environment, not sure, PCing glass petris is hard on the environment too
plastic might actually be best and most environmentally friendly in practice, if not using a lot
I wouldn't use glass for anything, I like plastic the most.. but recycle mine so far
you might need 30+ petris quickly if you got many strains(or substrains/isolates), wild prints etc. glass would be very expensive that way... and harder to work with (heavier etc.)
btw... you can order on ebay with no worries, get a box of 500 there then you are set for a long time wouldn't worry about ordering them home... many people use them for frog eggs etc remember scalpel, alchol lamp, surgical gloves, inoculation loop too :-P

Good call, probably still just going to stick with the disposable ones since I like to buy bulk and keep a stock of things. Try to eliminate too many steps to accomplish what is needed. I dont have too many strains yet but in the future I will.
How do people even PC PP5 petris? Can you prepour without it going over? How do they even sit in the water hah?

Don't use h2o2 agar. poly styrine petri dishes cannot be reused and 100 isn't that much at all.

Go to a dollar store for your pp5's. I was there last night and they have clear ones with clear lids that you can stack. Of course they're higher than petris, but you don't have to pay shipping and you can re-use them. I think no pour agar would b easier than pouring that many dishes in a SAB or flowhood. Just pour, PC and you're done till you knocke'm up. At the very least they would be good for long term storage of singled out traits.

Good call man thank you, I'll check out the doller store later. Can I stack them in the pc when I sterilize? Also with those containers what should I do about GE? Leave it not all the way tightened and still use parafilm maybe?

In my experience pouring dishes has been way easier and forgiving then using no pours. I dicked around with all sorts of different no pour TEKs nothing worked as good as just pouring the damn dishes myself. It's just not something you get the first try and people are so damn afraid of failing on their first time. It's as easy as learning how to ride a motorcycle but when you fall off all you get is a dish full of green you throw away, boo hoo

$20 for a 10 stack of 90mm. Sub $7 shipping where I'm at, too. Definitely gonna give them a try next time I need dishes

Oh yeah I've poured 20 good plates before this, no contams or anything and I live in a really old moldy house =( Good sterile procedures for my first few times..
I just fucked up and left it to cool for too long while I smoked tough with some friends...it was still liquid coming out and for the first 5 pours and then it clumped up in the SAB and I just got pissed and left it for the night and passed tf out.
Once I get more petris I'll definitely be pouring more, and going to need more strains..ugh gotta get a trade rating or something.. plenty of extra stuff I have to give away though, like full LC setup and whatnot. Just want some cool strains to work with =)

Yes, you can stack them in a pc when you sterilize. You can drill a small hole and fill it with poly, or SFD or ez felt and just cover it with foil so no water gets in.
After that, if you use a MS syringe, or LC in a syringe, you don't even have to take the lid off to knock it up, though you will have to for your next transfer obviously. I use SHIP's and EZ felt on all my lids, no matter what they're for....they're pretty universal that way.
I just did petris today for the first time, and the only thing i didn't like about them is how light they are. I had to be real careful with my hand movements so i didn't knock them over..but i believe practice will fix that.
Good luck bro!

Thanks man appreciate it. After this big box o petris gets here only I'll be stoked to put in work with agar.
I've just got plastic wide mouth lids with a SFD on em, 3/8 inch hole so hopefully the agar wont dry out or anything. But yeah I'm gunna PC some in half pints right now actually =)

I use smaller holes on mine. If you use bigger ones you may have to stuff them a little tighter to prevent them from drying out. I guess it's just like everything else in this hobby..you just gotta find what works for ya.
I have WBS in jars right now, and i'm wondering if they're gonna dry out, or go the distance. Fingers Crossed.
