Madbag trich?
    #19467684 - 01/24/14 01:30 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

I bought 2 madbags back in October, knocked them up and let them sit and grow. Unfortunately they never got covered 100% in mycelum so I took them out of the bags and threw them into a SGFC. They have been in there for the past 2 weeks but now I have noticed both have green spots, at the same time I noticed pins starting as well. My question is if it's safe to let it do its thing and leave it alone to grow and if I do this will the mushrooms still be good if they themselves don't have any green on them? Or what other options do I have?

I would personally just toss it if it were me. They are pinning as a last ditch effort to fruit because of the contam. But yes if the fruits have no visible mold on themselves they're safe to eat.

You can cure the mold by hitting it with hydrogen peroxide salt amd by slicing it off. the mushrooms will be good to eat with no physical mold in them. remember if you do keep them you'll risk contaminating you growing area.

I've seen people use a salt paste to keep it at bay until they can harvest that first flush (although I don't have any personal experience with using it) but peroxides only use would be for cobweb.
