The outer part of the shrooms dry quicker. Sometimes the inside is still a bit wet even if they feel cracker dry.

They are probably still good though.

Let them dry a bit more and they'll be ok.

this may sounds weird/dumb but i always have noticed after getting mine cracker dry (I'm talking thru and thru) if i put them in fridge in a bag (not a glass jar) they seem more pliable than before.  i have since kept them in room temp (which here is 65-70 in winter) in sealed glass jars.  i don't like the idea of baggies plus storage in fridge.  dunno what it is (never tried glass jars in fridge tho).  i'd even say baggie in room temp (like closet) is better than baggie in fridge, but thats me.  i could be totally wrong here.

Mushrooms, like desiccant, absorb water from the air. They will turn pliable if exposed to humidity, thats why its important to store mushrooms with desiccant.

I've stored my shrooms for months in glass jars with no desiccant. Desiccant is good if you're leaving them in plastic bags for a long time. If you fill up a glass jar with a good lid the small ammount of moisture in the jar is really irrelevant. I grind my shrooms into dust and put them in gel caps they're still dry months later. It takes more than 12 hours in a food dehydrator that goes to 160F to get them cracker dry even though after like 6-8 hours they will feel rock hard, Split one in half to check.

Potency is also genetic so while smaller fruits may tend to he more potent, genetics will still play a role,  especially if the reason for the smaller fruit size is due to poor conditions. I am assuming OP is growing ms so there are a lot of variables in play.

The shrooms being in gel caps kept them completely dry. Im not saying that storing them without desiccant will leave you will flexible shrooms in 6 months but we know potency loss from mushrooms is from water, even a minimal amount. And since mushrooms absorb water like desiccant, there is no doubt that storing with desiccant is the only way short of storing in a vacuum to keep 100% potency.

I make them into caps after the storage. They're whole shrooms in storage. Potency loss is from oxidation not water.

The potency loss is not necessarily a direct chemical reaction. When mushrooms are wet, they begin to rot, Even if they are moist. Once they begin to rot, the psilocybin begins to oxidize. Ive seen it firsthand.

who would eat rotting shrooms anyway, you have a big problem if you're having rotting shrooms occur.

Do like everyone here does that grows a lot of shrooms. Put them in glass jars after drying them in a dehydrator til they're cracker dry through and through. Or put them in ziplock freezer bags for a few months. Or put them in ziplocks with desiccant for really long term storage.

My friend stored a quarter of dried shrooms and after 4 months they were slightly moist and tasted bad, like rot. Potency was significantly less. They were not stored properly, but regardless the point is storing with desiccant guarantees potency retention.
