I am about to dive into the world of AR platforms. I have a friend who built his own and finally got the last piece. Then i was talking with my friends father tonight who has built several ARs, very expensive ones. He showed me one tonight that just blew my fucking mind, and now im sold on the idea. i will probably throw 2-3k on the project.
Ive also heard that you dont have to register guns you make yourself. There are other rules, such as only you can work on it, clean it, maybe even fire it.

update:
Its coming along quicker than I thought.
I have my lower, lower parts kit, and just received my upper in the mail. The upper cost $612, the lower was about $250, so im in around $860. The upper is BADASS though, im glad i spent the extra cash on it; it was on sale down from around $1000. All i need is the buttstock (I think), and I know someone who might sell me his, hopefully its what i want, otherwise ill shell out another $250 for one that really caught my eye before.
Ill post pics and exact costs for this at a later time. I havent assembled anything yet.

heres the finished product. took nearly a year and about $1200. But this gun is badass and pretty much just the way I want it, minus a good scope
