1st mono tub grow...lots of questions

I followed Damion5050’s tek pretty closely, I covered the tub and waited 10 days and then checked on it. it was at about 70ish % colonization but for whatever reason, prob moisture, it stopped colonizing. I waited two more days and noticed no real change so I uncovered it. its already started to pin and there are hyphal knots all over it! Hows it look guys and gals? any suggestions or questions? Also, theres a small yellow tinted spot of mycelium in one corner near the polyfil..cant tell if its contam or not..tell me what y'all think. 1st pic is the possible contam..thx y'all.

what do you mean by covered and uncovered? The Tub should have all holes covered and the top on before 100% and the the polyfill after it reaches 100%.
Is that a casing layer?

yea i didn't cover the polyfil with tape or tape up the holes like I've seen on other grows, I just covered it in two garbage bags. I still think that it accomplished the goal of a high co2 environment. Are you saying I should of waited till 100 colonization before introducing it to fruiting conditions? bc I've heard that once its pinning you should just go for it and start pinning.

second thought after looking closer it looks like it is 100%. did you put a thick layer on top of the sub mix? it looks like a really good pin set when i look closer! i think your fine man and that its gonna be a good flush.

Elementary coir tek by damion5050, this one?
Quote:
STEP 12
Now take that left over coir that was in the bucket and use it to put a top cover layer over the entire surface so that there are no exposed grains.
This is not a casing layer. this is a frosting layer and it should get to 100% before fruiting. This layer should maybe be 1/8-1/4" thick if you even care to do this step at all, RR advocates the frosting layer some others don't bother, pick a way.
A casing layer is a non-nutritive application applied after the full colonization of the substrate.
There's all sorts of inbetween psedo-casings people have come up with too.

yea the top layer was prob too thick, it was my first time. Yea the pin set is beautiful I wish I could take a better pic but the plastic blurs it. Ill post pics before harvest. Thanks for taking a look!

if it was a little bit thick and started pinning I would put it into fruiting. Maybe it had a bacterial problem too but you don't have to toss ASAP for that you'll just not get as good of a yield. Toss it if you see rogue molds. Blue bruising and some yellowing(if its metabolites) are nothing to worry about.

do u think that yellow spot in 1st pic could be rogue mold. The yellow metabolites I've seen have all been a yellowish liquid ?

hard to say could be bacterial and mycelium fighting it off. I doubt you'll run into a yellow mold before you would have ran into green mold.

its probably just standing water. i usually use a paper towel or toilet paper to soak it up.

I have always heard its best to leave monotubs alone and not open until harvest. Is this incorrect?

Once they are 100% it doesn't matter. Remember also when you put the tub together being clean doesn't matter at that point. You could put the tub together outside and it will still be fine if you did all the other steps correct. Its just not the best practice to open it before it's 100% because fresh air acts like a pinning. Trigger and you'll release all that nice co2 that's in there. But once you put into ffruiting opening it won't hurt it. But you want to make sure the fae is good.

I've also heard of people just tilting the tub to spread the pool of water and so it evaporates. Not wasting the moisture if you didn't want to open it.

Little update..first flush has come in and I've harvested all the mushrooms that were mature and easy to get to. I used my hands and an exacto knife. This made it a lot easier to harvest the mature fruits without damaging mycelium or pins. So what do I do once I harvest this whole flush...is there a dunking technique y'all use? Also any guesses on dry/wet weight!?!?
