Even thinner then that. This growth literally looks like a single strain. Its so thin but definitely rhizo. I'm wondering if I should wait and see if it turns into what your talking about or take it now (well tomorrow)

IMO you all should quit worrying about what your mycelium looks like on agar until you get more experience under your belt
As long as it is clean cubensis mycelium, the visual appearance on agar is really not very telling.
The best test is to put it to grains early, take clones of promising fruits, and then test those out and go from there.
Seeing a few confirmed good fruiters on agar, you'll start to know the little things to look for in your isolates

Lol but I like to play and experiment. Also I'm not so much concerned with what it is or can do, I mostly just wanted to know if anyone else has played with what I'm talking about or if its 100% pointless. I know there is no way to give me a definite answer. I just like to hear about your guys experiences on the stuff that's NOT talked about everyday.
I have fruits coming (hopefully this weekend) I plan on cloning a mature fruit and a pin but in the meantime, I'm trying to learn and watch as much as I can with what I have.
I saw what I'm talking about in another thread weeks ago, but of course now I can't find out what was said about it.
So I thought I'd ask first. I'm probably still gonna take it just too see what happens. As I've said before I don't have anyone IRL I can talk to about this stuff. So you guys get stuck with me and my ponderings.

I was just saying not to worry about what the myc looks like on agar (as long as it is clean) until you fruit a few cultures out

Ok I'll try not to read into it to much until I have more first hand experience.
Sorry for the life story above I'll probably delete it tomorrow if bodhi wants, try and limit the OT discussion.

Bumpdate!
OMG i'm such a noob! I thought it looked like mycelium, but upon opening my 1/2 pint jars outside the SAB, what looked like a thin layer of mycelium was actually just some gross bacteria. My syringes are all absolutely disgusting. Out of 10 syringes, 2 plates with each, only one syringe showed growth, and had to compete with gross bacteria. I can't believe I made the noob mistake of transfering some bacteria and contamns to a couple of plates.
In the past few days i've had to throw out a bunch of stuff.
So with the Texas variety that survived on agar, I've successfuly transfered it away from contaminations and bacterial ooze after the 3rd transfer. Awesome!
I've also repoured 20 agar plates for later use. Things are looking up!

Here's an update of how those dishes look. I must have been sleeping on the Cs3b dish with cobweb, a spot of bacteria and the web anyway. I'll not be using that dish since I have enough other dishes to work with. I'll transfer these in a few days, I know I said I would have already by now but it's like 62-65F in here and they're growing slow as shit and I'm lazy haha. The right hand side Cs4t dish looks pretty awesome I'm going to grab that big thread in the 5 O'clock position

just made a dozen second transfers from the first six. lookin good. i think most are full isolates. if so, is it best to transfer wedges from them straight to jars and save the rest in the fridge until the winners are picked, or to make third transfers to grow out further before putting to jars? or what?
meanwhile, been working on a larger scale fruiting environment. it's kinda ridiculous but hasn't cost much. looking forward to y'all's reactions.

if u got an isolate on ur third plate/transfer from spore, thats awesome! usually its that low for pins/clones.
i would personally transfer to another plate just to make sure it is an iso (if it was originally from spore). if it is an iso, i would put it to grain and save the "clearly marked" plate in fridge like u said. sometimes i will transfer an iso wedge from original plate (i have no slants) to new plate, let it grow out to 3/4 of the plate then take that and knock up several masters, or just one master for really fast growth, up to u, ur time frames, needs, wants. no wrong way! good luck! so what kind of larger scale you mean by the way? like a GH?
edit: my ksss (the one for this thread) second transfer is behaving so strange. its like a ball of myc that is not going anywhere horizontally, but turning into a fuzzy ball. i only had one 2nd transfer from spore move out into visible sectors, which i took 3 wedges from and waiting for that to grow a bit. also put a wedge on grain for a pre thread grow before i get an iso. unfortunately i was and the size of the wedge was the size i was using for the agar transfers in the same SAB session, so growth may be slow (i can't even find it in the grain jar). ill "wedge" it again in 3 days if i don't notice anything. just got home from my third shift job (2 jobs suck!) so ill post pics when i wake up.

thanks once again, leaf. yeah they're all second from pins taken from violet's grain plates. i'm trying to figure a way to take fotos through the still air box. lighting is the real bitch.
as for the fruiting chamber it'd take an essay to comprehensively describe, so i'll compose a foto essay nearer to completion. maybe even publish an instructable. so far built mostly with stuff i already had. it amounts to a pair of passively humidified green houses enclosed in a gently heated chamber. all tucked away and readily concealable. even has extra space for monotubs or whatever. it's going to work... really... (fingers crossed)
i've had the fuzzy ball thing a couple times, but it always reached out after a couple days. and once they started, they moved real quick. rock and roll.

Alright well I made the transfers
The dishes to the left are the origin dishes the ones to the right are the new dishes. I lost one origin dish to contam that I didn't get to in time so I just made two dishes out of the last one.
So everything is either on the 4th or 5th transfer now.
I'm thinking I'll get myself 6 monocultures and then fruit them in small trays at the same time in the SGFC so they can all compete against one another.
I also took a high res picture without the lid on so you all can see some growth on agar without anything in the way.

I'm amazed at how clean the q-tips are! I haven't seen a sign of contams on agar and I was fairly lazy when I swabbed. Nice job bod!

I was a bit careless with one of the transfers I just made, If I see a contam I'll know why. I'm always like DOH at least once while doing SAB work.
Glad to hear it's coming along well.
Oh and your reishi is doing well. I have it on three dishes and it grew out just fine. I put a few wedges to grain too they're all growing out but each wedge looks like cobweb growth on the grains but it's going slow I think it's ok but we will see. I might have just goofed putting the wedges on the grains since the petris are doing great.

Don't expect reishi to look like cubes on grains. Fact is that you want to get full colonization with the cobweb looking growth because if it thickens up too much (and it will do this fast) it will turn the grains to mush and become to solid to shake.

Yep, Patsy's right. Here's my reishi culture on just grains.
And here it is with wood and grain.
I know the first picture is a little crappy, but can you see the difference?

Well... I was gonna do my 2nd xfer from MS yesterday but thanks to some potent bud I fucked up. First when I was making my agar I kept pouring the dishes and as soon as poured the last one realized I forgot to add karo... I did this twice! Then I threw everything in the PC, cooked it and let it cool for HOURS. Upon opening my PC I realized I forgot tin foil cover SON... OF ... A BITCH... Man this is some good shit, but fuck...
So I'm starting over tonight... Hopefully later I'll be posting I got my 2nd xfers done.
Also all of my plates caught up to the KSSS so idk what I'm doing for this since bodhi is on 5th or 6th xfer right? I might clone a few pins that I fell in love with on my mini bulks. Then just use that for this thread so I can keep up.

You can use anything for this thread. You don't have to go down to an isolate. or you can lag behind no big deal.
and thanks Sgt.
