Two weeks after fruiting this cake, here's what I have to show for it.
    #19452342 - 01/21/14 11:21 AM (10 years, 11 months ago)

To be fair though, I kinda think I 'dun goofed' and got my measurements wrong. Basically I now realize I probably put far too little BRF during sub prep plus too much water. Otherwise I got to 100%, consolidated 7 days and dunked 24h before birthing. I fan, mist and house my project on a SGFG that is raised @20c. So yeah below is just about it. Rest of the cake has just a bunch of small aborts.

Sadly I'm bang out of spores. Oh how I would die for a print which that cake was supposed to give me :frown:

BUT I have two sterile jars currently colonizing. Cuz I'm a bit broke, do you reckon under a SAB I could do a mycellium tissue transfer and drop it into a newly PC'ed PFTEK cake (with verm/brf measured properly) instead of buying a new syringe for spores?

You have two choices the second being the best option. 1st yes you could but I'd drop the mycelium on agar. The 2nd pluck one of those pins and drop that on agar.

I've heard of people transferring mycelium tissue to rye seed. They had success. I wouldnt see why it wouldn't work for the pf tek. Also if you really need some spores, I can help you out, just pm me about it if interested.

well for one it's already in fruiting and covered in contaminates

I would think it would be best if you cut the abort open in you SAB and remove some clean flesh for whatever you try but I don't see a way to do a pf with verm and not contaminate it or be at super high risk of contamination.

Don't cut tissue samples the blade drags contaminantion on the outside of the sample into the core. Tear tissue samples in half to expose clean tissue. You can't really tear a pin but they're usually so vigorous they bury contamination and grow just fine(on 2D media Don't try it in sterile grains) but take a transfer or two to be safe.

:dawerp:

I said pin rather than reiterate abort in my reply but good catch I didn't point it out.

Don't clone an abort. You want to possibly carry on a linage of failure?

Hey good tips, good tips thanks a lot also for the assistance on obtaining more spores...

Back to the cake, do you think it's done. Shall I just toss it and cut my losses?

There's another cake in the SGFG showing exactly the same characteristics as the cake in question, ultra slow pinning even though I consolidated that one for an extra week and a bit. So the only explanation I can conclude is not enough BRF will lead to this shyte. Getting trashy genetics twice in a row on B+ seems unlikely.

Oh and above me now there is a cake that is colonizing, forget the abort cake in the SGFG I was going to use the jar to extract the mycellium when it was done under a SAB as it should be sterile enough..for tissue for a transfer to a new sub. I'd go for bird seed but I still have loads of verm and a bit more BRF so I'll just finish that off first before giving different teks a go

The cakes are probably fine. You have enough BRF. You could cut the BRF in half and still get shrooms just fine. I have a feeling your SGFC isnt built right. Take a picture of the SGFC.

should be alright. More elevation would be better I like to have at leaast 6 inches on all sides including the bottom. You're misting them every time they dry out?

You may want to consider room conditions too (temp/humidity/location of FC).

Ok awesome I'll see if I can find something to raise it a bit higher. Yeah, I'm misting about 2-3 times a day lightly and fanning it till it sparkles instead of letting it be soggy.

I even injected 10cc of tap water into that cake distributed in various areas. Maybe eBay spores just suck, but then again how the feck would he/she have fruited something as crappy as this lol

You dunked 24hr before birthing? So you poured water in the jar? You would usually birth before you dunk.

Did exactly what Marc does on his website, removed from jar, rinsed off loose verm and placed in a pan with a plate to keep the cake submerged, left for 24h, rinsed, rolled it around in some verm

TBH, I just dunno why my grow is sucking. I think the picture is a mutant anyway. I probably have enough pins and aborts for a decent microdose trip. Not sure I'm ready to get totalled and fucked again though, I took down 30 dried liberty caps and got spent. Lightweight or what :P

So I just went away for 5 days. And here's what greets me when I return....

HOLY FUCK MOMENT.

Unfortunately, one cake got spore/blasted. I tried to clean it up as best as I could under the tap before redunking for another flush. However is it too late? I saw somewhere that when spores make contact with mycelium it tells the cake to shut down, or something. Lifecycle complete?

Anyone?

Nice greeting to come home to. Definitely nicer than the earlier pics. That one cake was ready to be harvested at least a couple days ago.
