why so small this time? please help
    #1943820 - 09/23/03 11:36 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

My friend was wondering why his shrooms are all small this time for the first flush using brown rice tech. half pint. The only thing he can think of is that the temp is 70, and I know it should be up to around 75 or so. The humiditiy is fine at around 95 percent or so. Could there be any other reasons why they are all only 2 to 3 inches big? He has many different strands, so I know its not that. Please help, thanks!

casing or PF Tek?
If casing: Substrate amount, too high humidity and too much CO2 can all stunt growth.
Hope I helped!

Its a PF Tech. So if there is too much CO2, I take it I should be airing them out more then twice a day?

The problem may be that your cakes are dehydrated. Try dunking them and see what happens.

probably because of dry cakes and low temps both. shock to pin and then they like to grow and form at 75-78degrees in my experience.

BUT-the lower temperatures will lower the speed that the mushrooms will grow, and some say increase the potency, but they will not be smaller because of temperature change. also dunking is a good idea. the culprit is most likely the water content in your rice. although you have small shrooms are there a lot of them???

Dunk and fan more (at least 3-4 times a day). Raising the temp a little may help a little too, but it's probably not that big of a deal.

He did dunk all of them before the first flush, and yes they are small, but they are comming out of everywhere too which is good. I will tell him to fan more and to raise the temp up alittle also. Thanks for all your help!
