Deep understanding of artist
    #19318584 - 12/23/13 09:28 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

OK, for a long long while I have listened to kid cudi. Well, since my sophomore year after hearing "DAT new new" it has been extensive and so feels like a long time. What intrigued me of this cat wasn't the music itself, but the undertones. In many, many of his songs he has an eery ending to them which, to me, sends a message deeper than words. Whether this is me finding meaning in nothing or author's prose or quite simply, just trippy music, I want to analyze this artist in this post in a later date when I have time and really just want to see who would be interested or see who could help add on. I promise to the none rap/hip-hop inclined, this will be enjoyable. Thing is, most of what I have noticed that nobody else touches upon is not discussed. So then I just wonder if it's hidden messages... Or again me just grabbing at shit.

Tldr hypebeast thread for when I can write up a proper analyzation of Kid Cudi's music.

Yes you are right and its not a hidden message to be decoded its one that you feel. Infact as you go on through stages of enlightment you will relisten and truely understand further. Youll begin to realize that each song is to help you cope with the stages and curses of becoming enlightened and this is the only way to do so. It reassures your souls change and that youre not alone. If u feel strong and feel like a song is helping you understand but youre not satisfied completely with the answer and same with life thoughts rest on it when you get it youll be okay.

I hate rap and hip hop but Kid Cudi is one of the few that I could relate to. I like his shit but I still think rap is crapola. If he picked up a drum stick or a harp or guitar and just started jamming and rapping I'd be impressed and I'd listen to his shit more. I like to know that an artist has a hidden talent for this stuff and skills that we don't know about.

Once you truely get the many meanings through the stages, one song in particular everytime you think you get it you dont untill it feels like a mindfuck. Its not about sound it will sound perfect when it fits

The Prayer. I was driving to work the other day and it made me cry. I've heard it plenty of times before, 100's and suddenly I stopped (thinking, not driving) and continued listening and I heard what was in plain frequencies

"If I die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take, but please don't cry, just know that I have made these songs for YOU"

Obviously, he did not make these songs for ME but, piecing with so much of a connection I have with his music, it felt like he had made it just for me. I know that if I don't share why, I just sound like some edgy hipster but it is much too personal for reasons why.

I read one of his quotes one time,"I don't claim I'm the best in music. I just know that one day I will inspire that person to make music through mine" (paraphrase). Every day... I wonder if it's me. But again, I keep the reasons to myself until I know for sure.

EDIT: BTW thanks for admitting this, that it's something about his music that just seems to carry weight more than others and is never quite the same any two listens and not just me having delusions of some sort.

I'd like to believe you could understand as much, or more, of how this music touches the soul. Of course my goal is to go through the door to heaven at night but is that song about DMT? I guess it's a personal choice and I was wrong to assume the messages could be universal but I do see a sort of.. connection to the music he has made (MOTM1 and 2 mostly, not indicud or WZRD)
