What is the next "Big Thing"?
    #1942857 - 09/23/03 12:39 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

The internet was the last one, before that it was computers/robotics.

But this "revolution" has grown cold. What will the next one be?

Fuel cells? Fusion? Thermal depolymerization? or something else?

We really need some kind of energy miracle.

I think we'll be on the internet for the next few years. We have barely tapped the potential of the internet.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniencies attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson

I'm working on a gasoline powered sweater. It's gonna be HUGE!

the next "big thing" will stem from the internet. interconnected consciousness through the internet. we will be able to get computer implants that fuse our minds and the internet, thus fusing minds to minds. prepare to be assimilated. actually i dont think it will make us all zombies under the control of the gov. I think it will cause a paradigm shift in consciousness and the way humans see each other. the problems of today will be irrelevent. all of a sudden it will matter that people are starving and dieing and being oppressed because you would be able to feel them and their pain through the net. compassion will be the dominant driving force behind human progress.

But then other people's pain will be considered spam, and companies will come out with programs to block it.
