Fruiting in SGFC "12/12" (12 hrs out, 12 hrs hidden)

So, for the record, will be fruiting in my own apt, that's not the issue. I know the best results come w/maximum FAE, keep off ground, mist + fan 2-3 times per day. Problem is, I'm at work all day and I dunno if the landlord will be snooping (illegal yes, I know, but still).
SO: Is it possible to leave the SGFC out while I'm at home during the evening and overnight, and then to stash it away in a closet while I'm gone during the day (say inside a cardboard box or something, or another tub)? I'm looking at a small SGFC, like 6 or 8 1/2 pint cakes, if that makes a difference.
I know this isn't ideal, but will it mess me up bad enough to make it not worth it? I'd prefer not to use a grow bag or do sclerotia cuz I'm keepin it simple and it's my 1st time.
Thanks in advance.

I tried that early on. My wife doesn't want an SGFC out in the open, so during the day I'd leave it in the livingroom, at night when she was home I'd put it in the spare bathroom. Comparing to having it always in the livingroom my fruits were smaller, thinner, just not as nice as the ones from the chamber that got constant fae...
If you're worried just put it in a closet with a daylight bulg and a fan on a timer that gives it a little burst of fresh air every few minutes.
My two cents...

No, it won't completely ruin your grow when you move it into your closet. Since cubes should be in 12/12 light anyways, how about trying the 12 hours you're home, you leave it out in the open with the lights on, and then, when you go to work, keep it in the closet where it won't get light. Just be sure to keep it elevated for maximum RH and FAE.

You might try putting a small fan in the closet facing away from your SGFC to improve FAE when you are forced to put it in the closet.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Sounds like it'll work well enough. I like the light idea too. Maybe a fan w/ some indirect air circulation could turn out to be useful.
I'll try to keep a grow log so it'll be clear what I did in case somebody else wants to try it the way I do it (I guess depending on how good/bad they turn out).
I'm mostly looking to trip myself and have a little to share w/a few friends, so I don't need a gigantic harvest.

A fan will disrupt the natural currents of a SGFC and should not be used. It will make too much FAE and dry out the chamber and your cakes.
If you have to put it in a closet, leave the door open, but don't use a fan.
Basic Principles of a SGFC

SpitballJedi said: Principles and construction of Shotgun Fruiting Chambers (SGFC):
This guide is not focused on PF/BRF cakes per se. It's really just the basics of how the SGFC works.
How it's made A properly made SGFC Is made of a clear/transparent tote with 1/4" holes on all 6 sides about 2" apart in a grid pattern. All 6 sides means the 4 vertical sides AND top AND bottom.
They need 4"-5" of damp perlite. You may need to rinse the perlite a few times to get rid of the dust. The dust can accumulate at the bottom, clogging the holes. A few pieces of perlite may fall through the hole, but only a few.
Principle of operation A properly made SGFC uses natural air currents to create high relative humidity (RH) and constant fresh air exchange (FAE).
The fresh air that flows in through the bottom holes rises up through the damp perlite assisting in evaporation. This evaporation is where you get your humidity.
Because humid air rises, it flows up and out the other holes, thus allowing more fresh air in through the bottom. This is how you get constant FAE without sacrificing humidity.
Some Things to Consider The SGFC must not sit directly on a flat surface. It needs to be elevated. If not elevated, air can't flow in through the bottom and the whole system breaks down.
Running a fan in the room with your SGFC will also disrupt the natural currents.
Once inside the SGFC, your cakes will need to misted and fanned. Because of the constant FAE, your cakes will dry out if not misted regularly. Schedules may vary slightly from region to region, but 3-6 times a day is pretty common.
Mist your cakes till they glisten with moisture and then fan the SGFC out. There is a magic moment when your cakes are no longer glistening, but they still appear moist, this is when you want to mist and fan again. Do this as often as required.
Mist cakes directly with a fine mist. The over-spray helps keep your perlite damp. Misting the walls serves absolutely no purpose.

I wasn't positive about the fan since I don't use SGFCs but I figured someone would correct me if I was wrong.

Well if your landlord is that Batshit crazy you have bigger problems, First off NO DO NOT PUT THEM IN A CARDBOARD BOX, THIS WILL MESS UP YOUR FAE!! Don't cut off air supply, You have to be smarter and faster then the next, if your that paranoid just put it in a closet, under your bed, or in a corner with clutter around it to disguise it! I use spiritual items to block mine while I'm gone they completely disguise my operation and no one is dumb enough to mess with anothers spiritual goods.

Hey, if twistedty can hide all the shit in this thread during a walkthrough you have to be able to figure out a SGFC friend
